Indeed. My father worked on designing deep sea rigs like this, and always wondered what would happen if something like this happened. Now we know - but he said they had a lot stricter guidelines to follow before his co got bought out by BP.
does this seem really stupid? They should have smart people working on this kind of thing - the types of people who would be able to take the known variables, plug them into a computer, and predict the results. I'm guessing they didn't do this the first time because the government wasn't all over them, and they didn't want to lose a large reserve. However, this could make the leak much worse.
@This great guy... are you serious? You don't know about the oil leak in the gulf o mexico? If they don't stop it soon, its going to ravage the whole surrounding area.
Since Linux has strived over the last 10 years to be more windows like, and very sadly, Microsoft has pushed out openGL support, it makes for less coding opportunities since most games (which are a very prime attraction to the PC) are now DirectX.
Quake was a huge reason to run linux 10 years ago... It performed better on worse hardware, and it was fun to set up a linux box to achieve that. It gave you a sense of accomplishment. Now a core 2 duo will power everything and more giving linux no advantage in gaming over windows. Plus windows has better drivers for DirectX that most games use anyways.
Linux will always have its place in the enterprise environment, to run VM's, and whatnot, but even there it is dying with no performance differences because of the horsepower. I set up storage for enterprises (mostly iSCSI) and VMWare is the most popular choice for people who know what they are doing. People who just get an expensive array and don't know what to do with it present out LUNs to windows... a waste if you ask me.
That was just my early morning two cents, so take it for what it's worth from your typical INTP... nothing (unless you get it):)
if the republicans got elected the same thing would be going on - very little funding to NASA etc... Now, I can't help but wonder if both sides are really just one side... The all have two things in common. They got elected, and they want to stay elected. That's politics 101.
Since there is no such thing harder than diamonds on earth, and we cannot create anything harder, then it must have been aliens who sent us the meteorite with a substance so hard that it would...
1- Make it to us through space
2-have encoded within it their history
3- then to be lost when we started grinding away on the bloody thing.

saying "no one can see above 60FPS" is bunk... you can't say that everyone is the same intelligence...
I've always been able to tell a difference between 60FPS and around 75FPS is where I can't see a greater difference...
Not sure if that is because i've played video games since I was 10, or what... but i've always been able to tell the difference - except above around 75FPS. I started noticing this over 10 years ago with GLQuake.
So honestly, whatever is going on in the world... who knows... it seems like everything out there is to seperate people and make them fight rather than "come together" which would be beneficial - but when have humans ever done the right thing?
so I live in the midwest, and when I was much younger, 18 years or so ago, I remember every winter we would get 2 or 3 feet of fluffy white snow which we would do all sorts of things with - I remember one year that it snowed so hard that we were able to grab shovels and pile up a good 8 feet of snow in between two houses, then carve a cave out of it... it took a couple days.
Now, it is december. Some of my grass is still green!!!! I can't remember the last time we got the kind of snow that we got back in the eighties...
now, I am not on either side of the whole global warming debate, but I always err on the side of caution - so if it takes a little thought and research, and my simple observation as I have outlined to you just now, I can't help but think something is wrong.
"they also looked at the related iPhone DeviceIDs to see how many of the pirates went on to purchase the game. None of them did."
It did not occur to this gentleman this his game.... sucked. Read that again and pretend Mitch Hedburg said it... it will be funny. And that part tooo.
Ah I see your analogy about the puking part... I won't go anywhere someone has puked unless i'm really messed up... so given all the chemicals that i've sprayed in my garage, good chance they are probably tripping their antennae off.
Maybe for some bugs, but for those nasty caca roches, I get a bowl, wipe the top 4 inches around inside with vegtable oil then put whatever inside... coffee grounds, bananas... whatever... There are tons of dead ones in there but that doesn't stop more from coming. Also, cockroaches are cannibals.
iSCSI rocks... and these things have everything built in. Seriously cool units. Costly though - but you know where that money goes when you use it - or should I say, spend 10 minutes setting it up and then job done.
being connected to the internet is not required for windows to work, and then you wouldn't have to worry about WGA. I think I started a tangent that made sense to me on the subject at the moment, but now I see that it was... wrong bat place, wrong bat time.
Look in your pocket... I'm betting you have a cell phone. That means if someone wants to know where you are, they can do so within around 200 meters. Your phone connects to a tower to "talk" - they know which numbers are connected to what towers at any time of the day. I would say microsoft is the least of your worries if you are a privacy advocate.
Famous last words.... I for one welcome the 50,000 year old blob that has been living under the sea and has decided to pay us a visit. I'm not sure once it discovers the plastic "pool" that is floatin around in the pacific that it will like us too much though...

gotta keep this short as I have to get to work, but something like 90% of the food products you buy at say, walmart, contains GM corn or soybeans.

this is fake. Or at least the truth stretched.
so - why aren't we interested in anonymity with our cell phones? Yes, I know its off topic, but thats the way you lead it.

you mean the pirates are going to continue to beat out "the man" and get away with it?
I'm just utterly shocked.
they run them through the ringer and then test for bad blocks.
