And let the market work out as it may. You have to choose between supporting IP and letting the market work it out. At the risk of nearly saying "information wants to be free": value is related to scarcity.

Fair point. It might be the case that I am a little biased, as one of the engineers working on the project is a friend of mine. He would be the first to admit that the greatest engineering challenge is to dissipate enough power from the system to stop it getting thrashed into pieces. If your local pier is anything like mine, the businesses probably did not prioritise the highest of engineering standards. Perhaps it would be more useful to compare the Pelamis with a ship. Yes, it needs occasional repair; no, putting it out to sea is not a waste of time.

How many people are going to carry around earbuds to listen to music?

You're absolutely right. Let alone a whole device containing batteries and digital storage. Apple is completely doomed to failure if they try to sell something like that.

Where do the earbuds go when you have to answer the phone?

Um, in your ears, perhaps? Imagine if... the earbuds themselves... could bring the sounds of the conversation to your eardrums! Let alone other useful things like, say, gently muting the music and playing you the ringtone...

You can't expect people to listen to a 5 minute song and relax while holding the phone up to their ears right? Or do you now need two bluetooth ear pieces? I think the whole idea is silly.
That's because you have completely failed to apply any lateral thinking whatsoever.

Unfortunately, Apple's continued failure to change their installer so that the user can choose a user install rather than a system-wide one (which, having cleverly designed things so that the system library layout is mirrored in each user's home directory, should be really easy) means that users are being trained to type the administrator password whenever they use an installer.

I think that this is a shocking omission, and it may one day lead to a class-action lawsuit against Apple.
