With recording costs at record lows as amatuer recording quality soars, the recording industry is becoming less and less needed. It is becoming easier to slice out the middle man, and deal with artists directly.
M$ no longer seems to claim that M$ products have a lower "Total Cost Of Ownerhip" than its competitors, namely Linux.
As Balmer admits:
"We have to compete with free software on value, but in a smart way. We cannot price at zero, so we need to justify our posture and pricing. Linux isn't going to go away--our job is to provide a better product in the marketplace."
M$ knows that it has to make a better product than Linux to survive. I think they have a long way to go..

And you are right. There is a lot of holes. And you can make it really hard for a hacker to get inside the system.
My point was that a dedicated and talented hacker still can do it in most cases. In this sense, true 100% security is hard if not impossible.
But good security implementation is still a must.

But you are right in everything you say about security. I don't think we were really disagreeing.
Companies that develope security related products surely spend a portion of their budget on promoting security fears.(Especially easy with M$).. The average business manager is easily scared when a big security firm issues a warning about impending viruses, security holes etc.
My experience is there is much less out there than the hype may lead you to believe..
And there is no such thing as security when a talented hacker wants your network bad.
So..Just don't make yourself an easy target. If the average networked business provides itself with enough security to make a hacker actually have to WORK!! at it to get in, then you will filter out most attacks; unless the hacker has a specific interest in your company's network.
There are quite a few types of geniuses, which cannot always be quantisized empiricly. Musical, spatial, linear, hyper-linear:) , methodic,intuitive, social interaction, etc. And there are even more, of course.
i.e. Musical geniuses can be easily split between two groups: Those who can write good music, and those who can play it exceptionally well.(not neccessarily excluding each other).
It is good that genius isnt just Menza members. High I.Q. doesnt quite mean genius either.. Its all what you do with your brain.
As others have pointed out there are fewer "minorities" on the list. However we must make the distinction between a genius, and a genius who 'does'something. There probably is as many 'natural' geniuses in every minority group, but fewer geniuses in the groups manage to do something about it because of the social conditions in which they are raised.
Ie. There are few major women scientists from the renasiance.[sp?] This is not because they are dumber. Its because the culture didn't allow them to discover the genius inside them, and go out and do something about it.

Reputation can conceal new realities. Blind Loyalty to/. is like any other Blind Loyalty.
The fact is, we need/. because it is the tool where people can speak their mind to the masses. Amazing meme distribution. Amazing freedom.
But, the general subjects that are given to us to discuss, are controlled by the few who run/. They have the power to direct the flow; the focus. And if that power is influenced by business agreements, ie. GOOGLE, then I believe the ethics of the/. community is violated.
Actually what I am saying is that The difference between capitalism and socialism, as they were both tested in the real world, is not much different.
Capitalistic democracy is a feudalistic society where power lies in the wealthy.
Communism is where the government runs the economy, and the rich run the Governement.
This is how both captitalism and socialism have been tried. I dont see much difference.
All the old names for ideologies are irrelevant. New forms exist that are independant of the old ways of looking at things.
The world is moving too quickly in too many directions for a stereotype of "socialism" to have any substance other than perception.
The world's attempts at Capitalism and Socialism has never been anything other than a competition between variants of FEUDALISM ; where the few own the vast majority of capital, passing from generation to generation.
The indymedia do tend toward humanitarian, equalitarian politics, and the political party agendas that they associate themselves to. However to say that the indimedia is advocating socialism is wrong. Socialism is an ideology that has never existed without a coloring of Feaudalism.
Providing food is only a temporary ix on starving populations. They must get the knowledge, the skills, and the economic freedom before they can conquer food shortages, etc..
Such programs as this can help the population get a motivated individual the information to build water pumps, efficient electriciy generators etc..
