Sorry. In America, we suggest having money before having children, because the day may come when instead of a child, you might just want a kickass video card.

    But, good luck with that.....*shiver*

And if there IS something, then tell me if/when upon learning this information, will it motivate me to go out and buy a hybric car, start wearing turtlenecks, and acting as if my shit doesnt stink just for knowing these facts.

I am at the point where the MACs would have to cut my food for me to make me switch, if only because the people using them act as if they come bundled with blowjobs in lue of software choices.

Can someone give me a legitimate reason to go Mac. I read every damn word of the article and dont think I learned anything new. I could buy a Mac tonight WITHOUT a payment plan, but I need more, dammit. I think for what MACs cost, I could get another sweet gaming machine under Windows, and just sip my latte with my pinky stuck out like the MAC fiends, couldnt I?

    Enlighten me, bitches!

    Geez, get a clue.

Microsoft's benefits and freebies for employees are probably the best in the industry, if not ANY industry. What you said about age could not be more false, especially in the programming ranks. Sure, there are lots of kids, but Microsoft is smart enough to know that kids need supervision.

Just because nobody in your circle made the cut doesnt mean a thing. I suggest your 'friends' just get a bit smarter, quicker, whatever, and try again.

The key to getting a job at Microsoft is not to just be smart, but to be in the right place at the right time. Different departments have different needs. You cant just be a poindexter, you need to be able to convey your ideas, back them up and prove your case in your writing and your speaking ability. Only then does it help to be able to code your ass off.

When I left Microsoft, the going base rate for new hires averaged $85K. Add stock options to that, and you easily top $100K in overall costs. Even though Microsofts stock packages are nowhere near as generous as they used to be, when then made the change they also increased base salaries.

So, as hard as it might be for some of you to stomach, Gates is telling the truth. These are not Janitors Microsoft is hiring, but highly trained, highly sought after individuals, regardless of country of origin.

The game has incredible variety, no game is the same, and the computer actually learns from what you do, and then adjusts to your game. Pretty soon, the computer is hitting behind you, forcing you to back from the net or get lob'd over, and basically kicking your ass to the point of embarassment.

Windows itself should remind you that the best technology does not always win.

What .NET did, was give developers a reason not to switch, and enough of them to steal the profitability potential away from Sun. How come so many of you never take a business perspective to your replies?

There are plenty of companies using .NET in the enterprise, and whether .NET is superior doesnt matter at all in that equation. .NET allows apps to be built quickly, without much learning curve, and foot-in-the-door matters more than anything else when it comes to technical adoption. If .NET existed solely for the purpose of limiting Java penetration, then you would have to conclude that on that note alone, .NET is wildly successful.

So, stop with the technical arguments, because it is past time for us to understand that technology alone never wins in the enterprise.
