I have been house shopping lately, and I cannot find anything that I can afford anywhere near downtown. I live in Columbus, OH and we have a halfassed bus system that is our public transportation. I wish I could live close, and ride a bike to work, I want to, but the housing costs are just too high any where near the city. This is true all over America, thats why people went to the suburbs, to get bigger houses. People in cities like NYC give up a lot to live in the city, but there its worth it for the city life, after 6pm here there is no city life. Not sure what to do, but felt like writing this.
come work a help desk some time handling user authentication issue. You would not believe how much I heard our customers complain about having to have a password at all.
E-Bay has this great ability to avoid the fraud scandals that have hit their community. They always do a great job of getting the public to buy into the fact that they are just a marketplace, and nothing more. I am glad to see some changes coming in the AUTO's area though. It really doesn't suprise me, as the cars I'm sure make them a pretty penny in fee's.
if the gun exploded in someones hand then that would be a result of a defect, and something that is not caused by a malicious user. Slam Microsoft all you want, nothing wrong with that, but realize this specific incident would not have happened with out a malicious user.
actually a better analogy would the gun makers. Should we put gun makers in jail b/c their products are used to kill people? The fault here lies with the malicious person, not the maker of the item. Sure, faults do exist in the product, but not anything that can cause problems usually without someone with malicious intent putting things into motion. With car makers, they usually get nailed b/c they ignore a defect that gets people killed in the normal day to day operation of the vehicle. For this to apply here, the software would have to crash on its own, and cause the breakdown, which is not what happened, an outside malicious force had to act first.
I always thought KOTR would make a good movie as well, but not with the story line from the game. I would rather see a movie based on all the things about the Old Republic, and the early Jedi that the game is based on. If anyone ever did make a movie on this on this concept I would like to see it shot in something different then Lucas' style.
Yea, but what OSS database product even comes close to SQL 2000? That being said MS SQL 2000 doesn't hold a candle to DB2, or any of Oracle's offerings. That is just my opinion. I think stuff like MySql is great for small operations, but they are hardly enterprise worthy.
and the one thing that I wanted to ask the author was about how the heck is every American supposed to be an innovator? He seems to go over this idea several times, but never really lays down an arguement for it. This article constantly talks about how Americans need to become innovators for the world, as this seems to be his idea of the evolution of a knowledge worker. This is you typical sensational type reporting that Wired likes to do, and only seems to share half the situation.
I don't think it is right for anybody to host spammers, but you are making this to black and white. Whay is DSLR is in a contract with NAC? It isn't always easy to move your site, people do have contracts, and budget limitations. Even worse, what is your ISP won't listen, and you are stuck in a contract with them. There is not a perfect solution to this, someone like you will probably think other methods are too soft, while I think SPEWS is too strict.
Its not always easy for a large site to just change hosts. Someone is being punished here who does not deserve it, and I think we can agree that is wrong.
I am very upset at the tone this discussion took on! WWII was hell, there is no other way to put it. We have never seen anything on that scale, encompassing so much of the world, and hopefully we will never see it again. A lot of you seem to border on defending Hitler, and thats just sad. Many of you seem a little to comfortable with your lives, the people who fought in WWII are heros. Tom Brokaw, and the like were exactly right when they call them "the greatest generation"
I went to WSU, and I did know of cheaters. At the time the internet was just becoming popular, so finding papers was easy, but there wasn't a tool out to catch cheating yet like there is no for this.
A lot of long time radio show hosts are allowed to do there shows from Florida. I know of a few other actually. I think its a right you have earned, if you have been there a long time. I wish they would be more upfront about it is all.
nice points, but what about those of us that don't like music as much? I like sports, and talk radio, and sat. radio gives people like me more options that we have in even the biggest cities. Not everyone listens to radio the same.
I am getting one here soon. The main reason are this, first I am getting a deck with a cd player built in so that solves my existing collection. I also want access to Fox sports radio, and I can't get that around here when I am in my car. Also, I am usually driving in the am or late at night, or rush hour. The programming sucks at these times, I would like to listen to radio, not Stern, or Bob and Tom, etc... Plus I want to have some choice for once in my radio options when I am not in the mood to lug around my cd's.
Business can stay with what they want, but I wish more residental users would upgrade to XP. I do alot of tech support, for a few ISP's in my job, and residental users need to get away from the 9x kernel. While XP definetly has some problems with Worms, those are much easier to troubleshoot then some the random stuff that happens on 98.
As for business, they will use whatever works. I know a few companies who have stopped Windows 2000 deployments in favor of XP. I'll be interested to see XP's adoption rate, because it really is a good O/S, as long as your patched. I'm a Macintosh fan personally, and I just find XP the closest thing to a MAC on pc hardware, though I am interested in Sun's java desktop stuff.
No one really screwed anyone. What happened is AOL and TW did not integrate the content properly. If you look at the newest AOL they are finally starting to do this, a day late and a dollar short though.
I had a employee tell me one time, they imprint because of their insurance company. That wouldn't suprise me since most chains have insurance to cover fraud in large amounts.
I see what you are saying, and agree. The problem with the router approach is in the future I have heard Kazaa plans to encrypt packets to avoid this, along with a few other measures. Kazaa also can be a pain because it defaults to port 80 if its preferred routes are closed
I did some work recently for a large off campus college housing community. We were using packet sniffers to detect blaster worms and the like. Kazaa, and programs like that have some sneaky ways of hiding themselves, the only way we found them were to look for a lot of broadcasting of packets. I don't know, it just seems like these programs find away around various measures to stop them.
Your money is protected by the FDIC and various banking laws. I think the FDIC insures upto
$150,000 or so. If you have more than that in an account accessible by ATM then you must be very rich!

ah, grammar Nazi, I posted this in a rush at the end of my work day(3rd shift) it has been a while since one of my post have been singled out

The odd thing about office is every user seems to use a different 10%.
Your money is insured people! There is a better chance someone will rip one out of a wall, then one being broken into through the OS.
