I'm no engineer but if Apple could only get up to 2.5 GHz in their big as a tank many fan G5 case why should we believe the new XBox is going to be able to house a 3.5+ GHz chip?
I have a number of servers and custom applications configured to notify me by text message, in the event of a problem. I am considering refusing to take work calls or text messages on my personal cell phone, and even quitting in protest of the new policy.
Well, make the the servers and applications send their messages elsewhere and by all means refuse to take work calls and text messages on your cell. If it is really important to your employers that they be able to contact you on your mobile they will either make an exception for you or find another solution.
If you are really concerned about this policy for work reasons speak to your manager, I'm sure he would rather you be the one getting text messages from servers and apps than him.
It seems like Microsoft is claiming they have built a better mouse trap so to speak. They do not seem to be claiming they invented virtual desktops.
From the document:
[0013] FIG. 1A is a pictorial diagram illustrating a desktop of a graphical user interface according to the prior art.
The figure is a sketch that clearly shows a KDE desktop. So they seem to think they have somehow improved the idea of virtual desktops. Of course, I was not able to see anything in the application that looked very new to me.
I'm sure the patent will be granted, MS will sue someone, then the FSF or some other body will get involved and 5 years from now some judge wil rule against MS and it will be the end.
It's a common misconception that stem cells are harvested from aborted fetuses. By making it look like there are these mad scientists harvesting cells from aborted fetuses the people against the research make it look more disturbing.
Go here for more info on how we really get stem cells. For those who do not want to read here's a little blurb:
Where do embryonic stem cells come from?
Human embryonic stem cells are derived from fertilized embryos less than a week old. Using 14 blastocysts obtained from donated, surplus embryos produced by in vitro fertilization, a group of UW-Madison developmental biologists led by James Thomson established five independent stem cell lines in November 1998. This was the first time human embryonic stem cells had been successfully isolated and cultured.
The cell lines were capable of prolonged, undifferentiated proliferation in culture and yet maintained the ability to develop into a variety of specific cell types, including neural, gut, muscle, bone and cartilage cells.
The embryos used in the work at UW-Madison were originally produced to treat infertility and were donated specially for this project with the informed consent of donor couples who no longer wanted the embryos for implantation.
We already have stem cell lines that are actively being cultivated. By cloning to get stem cells you just get all the religious zealots even more worked up. Use the cell lines that are there instead of creating more and the great research that is being done can continue without people freaking out about it.
Actually, that just tells you how to network your Zaurus using the USB cradle. The article is also not exactly correct. I was able to get mine talking to my laptop without doing any kernel patching on a stock Redhat kernel.
After following the instructions in the link you provided you will be able to connect to any services you have running on the Zaurus from the PC it is connected to via USB, that's it.
The 5600 is a great PDA, I really like mine.
As far as syncing with Linux though, forget it. The CD comes with software to sync with Outlook, that's it. Apparently the Qtopia-Desktop software for Linux allows you to backup data, no syncing though. I say apparently because I cannot get it to run on my Redhat 9 system. From what people are saying in the Sharp forums, not too many people have had success with it. Also, with the 5600 and the latest ROM update to the 5500 the PIM data format is different so if you were syncing your PIM data in Linux you won't be able to any more. The people who were working on syncing software have had to start over. It appears Sharp is leaving Linux desktop support for the Zaurus up to the community, and they are not being all that cooperative.
The Kompany apparently has syncing on their list of features to add to their tkc PIM apps for the Zaurus. Of course they are only worried about making sure it syncs with their product Aethera.
Its really too bad, I'm sure if Sharp would just cooperate enough to create some sort of libraries or tools for getting the Zaurus data to and from the desktop people would be writing sync software for every PIM desktop app under the sun.
Oh my lord mod the parent post up.
You do not have to say "Hey, this is copyrighted" in order to own the copyright to something. The mere fact that I am the author of my post gives me implied copyright to it.
I used Grip (cdparanoia and oggencode) and everything worked just fine.
Either the Norah Jones CD I have is not copy protected or the scheme they are using is too good.

That's ridiculous! Haven't you ever heard of the Cantenna? Just stick a couple of those on your roof and you are good to go!. ;-)
Oh wait, look at that. Apple's Mail.app has threaded email already...

Why would you want to run FoxPro at all, let alone on Linux. Gah.
