    Been using them for ~2 years, ~5 domains. $10.95/yr.

    IMO registrar's should just register the damn domain and do it cheap :)

    For mailfowarding, nameservers, etc.,

    I like zoneedit.com's price (free for up to 10 I think) and user interface so they run my nameservers and I can easily edit the config online there, do mail forwarding, etc.

    ~16 thermal 2 color printers

    - 4 dot matrix printers (only reason for these is in the Kitchen where they like hearing the noise, and the thermal paper doesn't do well under a heat lamp)

    That'd be pretty easy to set up... just map one server drive on all your clients and make the service on your machine point to 's:\seti1\seticli.exe'... then the next to 's:\seti2\seticli.exe, etc... Or with setidriver, put a shortcut in the startup folder to 's:\sd1\setidriver.exe', 's:\sd1\setidriver.exe', etc. If that's not clear enough let me know and I'll post detailed. I think I'm gonna do this to all the work machines I run seti on.

    Sun is doing some interesting processor work... really different way of going about the processor race...

    But will they exist in 2004? They're in fairly deep shit revenue wise now, and I think their Solaris strategy is a losing one (i.e. I think they should dump solaris and start selling services and linux add-ons to make linux administration super easy).

    Irfanview seriously pisses me off. It takes over file associations for TONS of filetypes and when you remove irfanview, it does a piss poor job of cleaning itself up. That may not be true of the current version but past versions didn't uninstall cleanly. It's on our companies 'blacklist' of crap that WILL NEVER be installed on our machines.

    Patents are a tough subject, but I think abolishment of all of them would be better for the world than what's currently going on.

    I think abolishing software patents is a necessity. It's just math.

    Just because you want to do something that's not been done before you think you deserve an artificial monopoly on that particular widget? That's what copyright's for!

    I could actually respect someone who made a 'nice' virus which poped up a courtesy button saying:

    "Your machine has been exploited due to 'detail the flaw'. This could result in serious harm to your machine and others if someone malicious takes advantage of it. You can fix it here 'address of patch'. To remove this bandwidth friendly worm (only uses 100kb/hour), Click Start --> Run and type removeworm. Then press Enter."

    We're running updated Trend-Micro an all clients; we're not infected... but thanks for the info anyways; nice to know. You did scare me a little, though so I checked... all the refused connections are strange machines (Linux, Access Points, Switches, etc.)

    Sorry to start a flame fest... I just get irritated with the way the powers that be like to change our language to further their cause ('piracy', 'theft', etc.).

    Yes, p2p networks have make infringing copyright easier than ever and artists and industries who's business model is based on controlling content distribution are going to have to accept the fact they've lost control on the supply of said materials.

    There is no way they will regain control. Anything that can be viewed/listened to can now easily be duplicated.

    In the future I think the way money will be made for artists and distribution companies is by offering an easy to use, affordable, drm free service. (I hope)

    The law may clamp down in the US to the degree where infringment is kept to an 'acceptable' level, but there're lots of people who live in countries without insane copyright infringment laws.

    There was music and print long before copyright and we'll have it long after. It's going to be wonderful when anyone in the world will have access to quality, up-to-date textbooks on any obscure subject they're interested in (for free).

    I do sympathize with the artists... but not much.

    If they considered open source with support from someone they'd invariably go with the lowest bidder who would surely proceed to screw things up... Most software contracts the gov't purchase are huge wastes of money. At least with micro$oft thay have a good idea of what they're getting and doing a half-assed job of maintaining their desktop's doesn't require much knowledge.

    While I don't deny killing p2p may be part of the reason they're not going after leechers, I think the real reason is that with most p2p networks it's pretty difficult to figure out what leechers are downloading... they'd need to either violate copyright themselves and share files over the network or install some kind've sniffer on every router inbetween the p2p users.

    It's distributed as either {.exe,.pif,.scr} which are all treated as applications in windows when you double click on them.

    The browser/outlook vulnerability won't affect many people (and those it does probably already have problems). Mostly it's people blindly clicking on trojan.txt.exe (with hide file extensions left on so it looks like trojan.txt). Nice default setting, M$
