Actually Mac OS X has had it since the launch of OS X in March of 2001, you just have to choose UNIX File System when installing and it turns your disk in to ext2 FS.
Just wait until WINFS comes out, yes you too can have a SQL Database file system.
I am not looking forward to longhorn but I might look forward to laughing at it if they dont change the huge size of the Start Menu...
I have a hard time that 802.11 will ever be super secure. Just because all you need is a laptop a antennae and some good skills to break into a WaveLan, Hewlett-Packard still keeps their Wirless Network open, and I know of several others.
So, Until a largescale hack on these systems happens then MAYBE will people get the Idea that 802.11 coiuld be secured better,. That and alot of people have not moved to WLAN yet, just because of the cost of the equipment, and the maitnence and configuration. is not really the easiest thing in the book. So even though I do use it at home, I still refuse to use it on a widescale level..
I think this could be a good and bad thing,
What if they had a 7,000.00 fee for people to file their global trademark or patent, or whatever copyrighted material.
It could be good for some products but bad for others. Because then you would have cyber squatters who decided to "register" their trademarks in bulk.. and then the people say linux.xxx, would be come a porn site...and what would happen to people who had already had copyrighted material? would that material then become void??
eh just a thought..
These are my Ideas that I stress when I am doing a Security Evaluation for my clients who are bound to comply to the HIPPA standards.
1. Secure Passwords Most security breeches are from people who either have access to your physical workstations or break in using insecure passwords. Minimum 08 Character passwords with Upper and Lower Case Letters, and Punctuation, and every 90 day password changes.
2. Intrusion Detection Systems Hogwash is my personal favorite, but I am biased as I am a contributer to the Hogwash project. But when configured properly, it can be your best friend... But if you do one thing wrong, your whole network comes to a screeching halt, so have someone do it for you if you dont know how..
3. Bait and Switch or Honeypot's If your a client who is bound by Federal Encryption and data security measures, throw a honey pot like Bait 'n Switch it could be a big help as well with your security set up
4. Limit Access to your IT Systems Dont let the "UPS" Man (or who you think is the UPS man into your Server Room(s) Alone. Social Engineering is still a big thing.
5. Close off Un-Needed Ports Your services (Like FTP, Telnet etc etc..) can be big security risks, So close them if you dont need them. And then monitor your IDS logs.
This is just my advice for beginning to secure a network, if you have any questions please let me know.
I feel that SPAM should be considered like Telemarketing. And I think we should be able to opt out without notifying someone that our email address is life and getting filled.
Interesting Article..I knew about the Green Card lottery, but I didnt know about DEC sending emails to people.
The only reason I would use Win 2003 Server is because I can FINALLY change Domain Names on the fly, when I am doing a server reload and my domain needs to be different.
but if the FireBird SQL Project had a product, with all the international use, why havent i (or any of the guys i happen to work with) heard of this product?? After that immature posting that the article mentioned, i would not change my name, we all know AOL is just as powerful as Microsoft so why dont they just go and kick some open source ass..
I wonder what the RIAA and MPAA are going to think of this one. next thing you know, talking to co-workers about the TV Show, the new CD, or the Movie you saw over the weekend is going to be considered piracy.
when will the madness end!
That is the problem, people here in south east idaho think they can get around with out having to have repeaters, or signal amplification equipment, and so the people who live where Qwest Communications is too lazy to roll out DSL, or Cable One Television dont want to work with the coax to make it so cable broadband is available. I personally think it is shit, that people can get away with over pricing, like Cable one and their 40.00 bill if you have cable internet. more Subscribers=more revenue-overhead=Lower prices for the end user. I wish they would make it available for everyone!
But it would be nice if we could see wifi hotspots in other smaller cities like Seattle Wireless has set up in their town.
I think if ISP's could lower the equipment costs for their WI-FI equipment down from 600 dollars to about 100, or 200 more people would catch on.
That and someone needs to come up with a way for the Wireless Providers to be able to shoot over the hilly and rocky mountains like we have in Southeast Idaho.
And if we could fix the speed barrier, get the bottle neck up from 11mbps to 54 or even higher, that would rock!
Microsoft Forced to Unbundle Software......
So what? Microsoft has made many agreements, is it really going to matter to them, Any amount of money could not keep microsoft from doing what it wants.
We All know Bill Gates has a god complex, and thinks he can do whatever he wants.
Next thing you know Microsoft will start bundling other software and hiding it, and it only comes out when you install the software....
GRRR Microsoft has pissed me off today so I am sorry if this sounds bitter.
GOD DAMN IIS,
I am sorry Altavista used to be cool, in 96 and then google came around, and I would rather use that. Google is Fast, simple, and doesnt have banner ads.
I am sorry, I will not use anything other than google anymore. ok maybe Dmoz.org.....I still like google
I live in BumFuck Idaho So since I live here, I dont see the point of buying an HDTV.
I live in an area of the world where every broadcaster trys to get their start and so the Telecasts are un professional, and boring. (10 minutes about a cat stuck in a tree) And All HDTV would allow me to do is see their faces more, and I try not to.
Those are my thoughts, I spend enough money already on electronics, and Computers that SWMBO "She who must be obeyed" Would be royally pissed if i came home with an HDTV when we watch less than 5 hours of TV a week.
Serves no point for me, but hey if they offer it In your town/state/city , go for shit.
Apple pulling out of MacWorld
Comdex Having Record Low Numbers
I think in the next 5 years or so there will be no more trade shows just because of the lack of revenue. Dont get me wrong their will still be Convenentions like Defcon and Rubi-Con but I think the trade shows will be gone...so get your free schwag now!
I remember in 1988 begging my mother to get a modem for our computer. It was expensive, and started somthing somthing bigger.
I rememberm dialing into the Local High School BBS and just chilling, and playing games with other. who would have thought back then, those BBS'es would turn into this, what we know now.
I know where sandpoint is, I almost moved there, if you looked at the links inn the posts, you would see it is for the city right north of sandpoint. =)
Wahoooo! My mom is wrong, she is usually never wrong! *does the happy dance*
I thought .g was already an IEEE standard?
Hmmm I guess my mom was right when she said i was behind the times..

If I pay NOTHING for somthing, (i.e. MP3's or Movies, or Microsoft software) how can it be funding anything? Nobody makes any money off of it..

That people in Utah ( "Mormons" ) shouldnt use Linux??? I have seen to many people have bad experiances because of their attempts at linux.
Now if only Apple could get on the ball with the whole OGG file thing, it wouldnt be so bad, Open them firmware and make it!
Not trying to be a troll, just saying hey, we have already discussed it.
Memo To Malda: Make sure your not posting the same story a week later...

Cheers to the invention of the BBS!
