Best in show? I can name all the nuts...

  2. Poll of polls on Best Albums of 2003, Scientifically · · Score: 1

Alwyn W Turner has compiled a list of the top 30 albums of the year, every year since 1990, as a poll of polls from magazines and newspapers like Uncut, Q, Mojo, the NME, Time Out, the Sunday Telegraph and the Sunday Times etc.

  3. Geek simulator on Old Age Simulator · · Score: 1

And now for the geek simulator! Ordinarily popular people can now experience social ostracisation, sexual frustration and the joy of computers. You won't want to take the suit off!

    If you have haiku dislexia,
do you count sixteen or eighteen?

  5. Re:Monorail my boys, monrail on A Maglev Train System for Florida? · · Score: 1

Which reminds me, I wonder what's happening with this monorail system that was planned for Cardiff...

    Every city should have one.

  6. Mysterious force.... on Pioneer 10 Still Running After 30 years · · Score: 4, Interesting
This article from The Telegraph in February has a bit more detail on the path Pioneer 10 has taken, and also on the 'mysterious force' pulling it back toward Earth...

What I want to know is, why does the plaque showing humanity in all its naked glory have the man waving hello? How are aliens supposed to interpret this? For all we know that could be the intergalactic symbol for 'come and eat my species, we taste really yummy'...

  7. Must have Autechre on Electronic Music 101? · · Score: 1
I know a couple of people have already mentioned Autechre, but I think it's worth adding that they really do make *gorgeous* music. It isn't all immediately accessible though, so I would recommend starting with their helpfully entitled album 'LP5'. It has a plain black cover with absolutely nothing written anywhere on it.

Also, try 'Ceefax' by Fridge. This has a similar textural feel. You'll start to hear the music in *all* ambient noise :-)
