    You'd need redistribution rights, else the mpaa would go after you. beyond that? I have no clue. I assume it would be worse if you hit any windows than if you didnt, but really, its a tough call. I assume theres laws against it though, else anyone could buy huge stadium flood lights and aim it right at someones house, potentially even heating up stuff to the point of starting a fire. /IANAL(But I just watched The Practice before posting)

    Case modders admit that their changes do nothing but make their machine look cool, and thats okay. But if you think having "id" return in 0.001 instead of 0.002 secs, then you're as stupid as the ricers that put big fins on the back of their cars.

    I really wish I had two identical machines so I could slap debian on one, gentoo on the other, then do hard benchmarks.

    apt-get install apt-listbugs

    Now every time you apt-get upgrade, it queries bugzilla for the version of the package its about to install, and pastes any outstanding bug reports. giving you a headsup before actually installing.

    apt-get install apt-listchanges will auto-mail you the changelogs which is nice if theres a config format change.

    And if you want a SUPER UBERRICE FAST DEBIAN, apt-get install apt-gentoo to add a couple of seconds of sleep() to apt, and print the compile logs to the screen.

    Without going into too much detail, theres both a "win update fix" that will alter the cdkey in such a way as to allow windows update to run (but if you let it reboot before changing back, windows wont boot ever again), and also some reg key that will disable the cdkey entirely and thus win update runs. I'm obviously not going to link to the first, and I dont know enough about the second to give more info-- It was an option in some reg frontend that was for tweaking speed and such.

    Yeah, any dos device name twice. con/con was used a lot, as was aux aux.
    In an AOL chatroom you could clear the whole thing out by using their annoying play sound command with it, {S con/con/asdf.wav

    I uh, 'had some friends', that would clear out full channels with moderators in there.

    What they should of done is make people think theyre going underground by having to resort to irc, but then setting up a giant warez irc network to monitor people *subliminal message*

    hint: dont trust a network founded on something that should not be public. Especially not one that offers XDCC bots to warez channels to get them to move.

    Yes, but this is something different -- You check someones profile and theres a link that says, for example, "Click here to see my subprofile!", and is a link to some random subprofile website that ends in ?username=%N which aim turns into your screenname, where your = the person clicking the link.

    I havnt used aim chats in ~3years, but I still get spammed. I wouldnt be suprised if they didnt harvest them off profile sites, messageboards with a contact button, or worst of all, those subprofile links that log your screenname (for the host company to sell later, or if they list it on the subpro like most do, to be harvested by bots)

    Internet2 has been around for years. Theres atleast 3 government/military networks that use the InternetProtocol. Thats just in the US, who knows what kind of private nets are out there in forign nations.

    Winamp/xmms(win32/*nix): Ctrl+L, then enter the url in the dialog that pops up.

    mpg123(Live cds that dont have mplayer?) lynx -dump http://asdf.com/asdf.mp3 |mpg123 -

    WiMP(windows media player..you figure it out): File-> Open URL. Helps if you launch mplayer2.exe to use the oldish gui.

    Quicktime/itunes: Don't know. If someone mails me an os x box(or laptop), I'll figure it out for you.

    Exactly. I'm saying you're fucked either way, as theres no way to block a good DDoS and thats what makes it so effective.
    The only possible solution I can think of is give everyone ungodly ammounts of bandwidth so as to make it harder to fill someones upstream, but still its easier to get more bots than someone has bandwidth.

    The day someone thinks of a way to effectively stop DDoS is the day someone becomes really rich.

    Thats nice if you want a trojaned ssh client. The rest of use just google I'm feeling lucky "putty.exe".

    If you don't believe me that its trojaned, scan it in any current antivirus software -- It submits your password via some custom protocol via the same port RealMedia uses. Nice try, script kiddie.

    Which is fine and dandy if you live in the magical world of unlimited bandwidth. Lets say hypothetical situation:

    Site has 100mbit of bandwidth
    Site only allows packets from the ip 1.2.3.4, rest is silently dropped (not even sending a RST or anything)
    200mbit worth of packets are flying towards site.

    What happens when 1.2.3.4 tries to connect to the site?

    Why don't they just replace the image with some mod_rewrite magic (or cgi/php) to check referer, and if its refered from that site, put up a huge ackbar DONT DOWNLOAD IT, ITS A TRAP ?

    Surely redhat engineers should know how to do that, if not, just ask anyone in #GNAA how to redirect an image.
