It's not that big a stretch, if you believe that MS is behind SCO and it's anti-linux litigation activity. And there is some pretty good evidence that MS has been involved.
Do you smell the faintest hint of an MS FUD campaign in the air?
I'd like to see, just for starters, if anyone associated with MS is a campaign contributor to Tolback. I'd like to know if anyone associated with MS has any previous involvement with this law firm or any of its lawyers. It's not like MS has never before engaged in litigation by proxy.
Adsense has been in the news an awful lot lately, being portrayed in a negative light. Is Ballmer finally making good on his threats?
This isn't about money, this is about politics and getting votes for Toback. It's an election year.
Although, on a deeper level, there might be money involved. I wonder if there are any rivals to Google that might have been funneling money into the campaign coffers of Toback. Are there any rivals that have a previous history of litigation by proxy?
So, you're saying that your parents' ignorance of technological matters excuses (or even blesses) this law suit? If your parents want to shield you from certain areas of the internet, isn't it their responsibility to understand the technical mechanisms already in place for doing so? Since when did the courts become the first line of defense in parenting and not the last resort?
If your parents are concerned about you accessing sites not proper for someone of your age and level of maturity, and they can't trust you to behave when they're not directly supervising you, then it's their responsibility as parents to know about filtering software. That is, if they actually care about you.
Having a lawyer on speed dial is no replacement for caring.
Somebody mod this up! This is probably the most insightful comment under this whole topic.
I'd never considered it in this way, but you're right. PC Mag and other publications that use the same Mac trolling strategy are basically perpetrating a kind of fraud on their advertising customers.
I don't think he had a problem, he was just slagging the mighty mouse. I haven't used one extensively (just on visits to the Apple store), but I find it annoying. I'm 95% laptop now, though, so it's not anything I feel strongly about.
OK, I get it. Sorry if I was a little dense (or if you're a little obtuse).
You're right about the ad revenue. Just guessing (I'm not going to go back there and help them out again), but they've got about 80/20 advertising to content ratio (if you even want to call it content).
How did Jim Louderback get the Editor-in-Chief position, anyway? Whose parents did he have to fuck? =)
I really don't think this is a case of Paul Allen pulling any strings in the background. If anything, he's trolling for page hits and modeling his behavior on his teacher, Darth Dvorak. As bad as Dvorak is, Jim Louderback is even worse. Not even Dvorak resorts to grade school level personal insults in his column.
Hey, if you want to email Louderback, here's his email:

Seriously, why does this guy care so much?
Just a guess? Job security. Or if not that in particular (if you can train a monkey to write about Windows, you can retrain it to write about Macs), then perhaps he is feeling the relevance of his "core competence" slowly inexorably slipping away.
He does seem quite bitter about his friends and associates adopting Apple hardware. If some of them find that OS X is a better OS for their daily needs, why would he begrudge them that, calling them lemmings? He even claims that their IQs are going to slip downwards. It might be that the various insults are an attempt at humor, but if so, it doesn't really work.
No, I think this excuse for an article is just a sign of the author's insecurity. You can pretty much smell his fear. I don't know what he has to be afraid of in reality, but this guy is shaking in his boots just the same.
You point out what you want, almost like ordering a cheeseburger.

Yes, that's were such a system could get overly complicated in a hurry. It's imperative too keep this as simple as possible, which would take a great deal of discipline.
Oh, I'm well aware that Globalization is unstoppable. But that doesn't mean that all local business will die out, either.
I'm under no illusion that when I buy just about anything computer related, chances are I'm buying something not manufactured in the US.
I might be willing to pay a little more for locally made or US made products, but I have my limits. I own a Japanese bike. Much cheaper (half the price or better) than a Harley. And the parts on a Harley are about 50% Japanese these days.
I'm also convinced that we in the developing countries are in for an over all lowered standard of living, until the developing countries catch up. My solution to that is to move to a developing country, where my dollar will go much farther. I haven't made the move yet; I'm still determining where to go and what I'll do for money once I'm there. Mexico is a strong candidate, since I already speak some Spanish and love the culture.
If it were small enough, I'd get one. In fact, I've got two fake teeth in my mouth already. They'd definitely come out for a bluetooth tooth.
Sorry, AC, only one to a customer. Otherwise it wouldn't be a bluetooth tooth, it would be blueteeth teeth. Don't feel bad, though. You can use the other tooth for a mini-USB port.
That's because it is better to give than to receive, numbnuts.

I'm sorry, but it's a well known fact that reality conforms to Civ II.

But can you outrun linux on it?
Well, spelling it out is going to make a bad joke even worse, but I meant . . . programming is hard like an erect penis.
Dude*,
Do you think you might depimpify your page a little? It's embarrassing to your cat. =)
I haven't been on MySpace in like six months, but my dog has a page somewhere in there. =)

What do you mean money isn't binary? It's got 1s and 0s, right?

. . . and still have windoz to fall back on (ouch that would have to hurt).
Another point in Apple's favor is that you don't need to defenestrate the hard drive. =)
I think you misnamed yourself as aristotle-dude. You're really an Einstein.
Reread the post. The guy is dissecting the logic of TFA, not making pronouncements about how easy it is to tinker with OS X.
Next time, read for comprehension before calling someone a troll, numbnuts-dude.

I started to reply "I want to have a threesome with your mom and dad", but I caught the typo before I hit submit.

Either that or it's breakfast.

Thanks for the link, Agent.
I'd still rather have the bluetooth tooth, because I'm not into all that eye candy. =)
Also, it would harder to show off your BMW key ring, you poseur!
=)
