You may be a trusting sheep, but others may not.
Do you want a cookie? No one's forcing you to use the service. Personally, I'm not too worried about the possibility of the DOJ accidentally reading my exam dates.
If YOU have significant holes to poke, publish them! Don't worry about an academic journal, get a blog. If you are worried about it affecting your own chances for funding and positions, then create an anonymous blog. Get the word out, make them responsible for their holes
Are you joking? The scientific community thrives on debunking each other's research. It's not at all difficult to get a well-written article published in a smaller journal; I've known several high school students any many undergrads who have done it.
There's a general rule of thumb about scientific claims. When a researcher goes through abnormal channels, like going directly to the press, the alarm bells should ring.
My thoughts exactly. Most reputable journals will refuse to publish papers that have been "leaked" to the media, and this is one of the reasons.
Everything you've said is (usually) correct, but I've seen studies with poor methodology get published in peer-reviewed journals, even in the hard sciences like chemistry. Abstracts are almost always written by the authors, so it's necessary to actually read the full text of the article before making a conclusion.
and I'm too lazy to look for myself [ama-assn.org].
I'm at a major research university in the US, and I don't have electronic access to this particular journal. They only offer free access to issues that are at least one year old. I could drive over to the health sciences library where they have the print edition, but I'm not really that curious.
That just blows my mind, Apple went from 64 bit G5s to 32 bit Intel chips.
Yeah, I couldn't believe that either. I think you're wrong about Apple not planning to have an AMD64-compatible OS, though. The next generation of "Intel Core" processors will support EM64T, so Apple doesn't have much choice. They were able to support 32-bit G4s and 64-bit G5s at the same time.
It seems you didn't even finish reading the headline. Red Hat is giving up on the Fedora Foundation, which would have been "an autonomous, nonprofit foundation to manage the Fedora project."
Your physics textbook is excellent. I've been using it to review basic quantum mechanics, and it's the most readable textbook of any kind that I've come across.
I stopped reading Slashdot for months and only came back recently. It would seem that it's more of a cesspit than ever. I'm very disappointed that my post pointing out that "gay" is an extremely childish insult was so controversial.
Let's say you have a pacifist civilzation and a non-pacifist civilization, they come into contact. If the Pacifists (P) have anything that the non-pacifists (NP) want, they will be forced into subservience
That really depends on how you define pacifism. If you consider pacifism as the "opposition to war or violence as a means of settling disputes", then that would include countries like Switzerland, which is quite capable of defending itself.
It just goes to show the mentality of some people here. For those over the age of 12, using "gay" as a generic derogatory is pretty fucking childish and insulting.
I agree completely! Before I decided to grow my hair out, I kept it practically shaved so I didn't have to comb it into a part, etc. Having normal-length hair is a pain in the ass. With my current shoulder-length hair, I just tie it back and I'm done. It does take longer to wash, though.
Ugh. Why the hell are they using x64 to refer to the AMD64 (or x86_64) architecture? It doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, except as an insane portmanteau of x86 and AMD64.
By the way... Nasarius: Full Throttle is Sam & Max, and the sequel to that is what they're on about:)
I admit that I only ever played the demo of Full Throttle, and that was a looooong time ago. Which is strange, because I think I played every other LucasArts adventure game. I'll have to go find it.
I did say *nearly* every. In defense of Kevin J. Anderson, Darksaber was a sequel of sorts to Barbara Hambly's "Planet of Twilight", which was much worse. On the upside, neither had Jar-Jar or an annoying kid. I think. There were some awful novels with Han and Leia's brats, too. Okay, so not all of it was gold.
But we're talking about movies where millions of dollars were spent creating the CGI effects. I expect they could have at least hired an editor to clean up the dialogue, you know?

I think I speak for the entire Star Wars fan community when I say, with all candor, "quit your fucking bitching already".
Maybe you do. I used to be a huge Star Wars geek. I read all the novels, bought the "reference books", absolutely loved the X-Wing games, etc. I quit when Episode I came out. I don't see how you can even compare the quality of the prequels with the incredible stories that other authors have written. Not just Zahn, but nearly every writer has come up with far better material than Lucas. The stories suck. The dialogue sucks, and not just the abysmal Anakin/Padme crap.

OBI-WAN: (continuing) . . . You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would, destroy the Sith, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to the Force, not leave it in Darkness.
OBI-WAN picks up Anakin's light saber and begins to walk away. He stops and looks back.
ANAKIN: I hate you!
OBI-WAN: You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you.
Of course, the very worst dialogue was between Anakin and Padme. Episode II was so painful.

Right. They mean pressure (force/area), not force.

Legally, neither is Microsoft. Read your EULA.
And in most cases nothing else interacts with or depends on his / their code?
Yeah, nothing interacts with or depends on sendmail, or glibc, or the Linux kernel...

Serious gamers, yes. But there's a whole segment of gamers with too much money and no taste who do buy PCs from Alienware, Falcon Northwest, etc.
Were you living in a cave during the 2000 US Presidential election? If not, you should remember the constant lying about what Al Gore said.

I'd do the same thing that DailyKos has just started doing: ban anyone who abuses the tags.

Because it's a marketing term coined by Microsoft, not a technical term.
