You just don't get it. Illegal immigrants are not in a position to carefully weigh the moral and ethical issues surrounding their illegal entry into the U.S. They are typically not sitting in a middle class suburban home in Latin America (or wherever) stroking their chin pondering the depths of the dilemma. More commonly, they are shit-poor with a huge, imminent economic disaster bearing down on them and on their loved ones. It is sheer desperation that brings them to come over and risk life and limb, rape and robbery, with absolutely no certainty of a positive outcome, knowing that they will get a very poorly paid job at which they will have to work practically like slaves under the constant menace of violent deportation.
The insistence on the technical illegality of their entry and presence in our country, and the spewing of pious rants about it are the shallow musings of simpletons. What would inspire you to walk across the Sonoran Desert for 48 hours guided by heavily armed murderous mobsters? You wouldn't do it. You don't have even a remote understanding of what leads others to do it. You are a simple-minded tea bagger talking out his ass, nothing more.
So you're hoping she's a cute granola-muncher who is not totally turned off by nerds? I gather you're either hopelessly optimistic or have some sort of gambling addiction?
Actually, schools are generally run locally. Depicting the DoE as the culprit is a red herring. I think the problem goes far wider and deeper, well into the realm of the practically intractable, at least in the short and medium term. US commercial popular culture is probably far more a factor than whether schools are run well or not.
The ruthless and punishing terms of the armistice, and the ensuing economic disaster in Germany during the 1920s, are widely credited as setting the stage for the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. The rest, as they say, is history.
The most depressing part of it all is the enormous fraction of the general public that puts all of its faith in the moronic demagoguery from across the political and social spectrum. Didn't they learn anything in school? Have they no common sense? Do they not have even a rudimentary ability to reason things out? Does everything have to reduce to magical-religious thought and outright superstition?
This plays so neatly and tidily into the hands of those who suckle with great force at the government teat and have their hands firmly lodged in all of our pockets. These people and organizations are brilliant masters at pushing people's buttons and exploiting us mercilessly.
more war == less humans. It comes out equal in the end.
You're kidding, right? A modern war does not reduce the net world population except in the very short term. I challenge you to demonstrate otherwise. After the two bloodiest and most destructive wars in recent history, WWI and WWII, the population tripled within two generations, as pointed out by our illustrious manifesto writer du jour.
This sounds like the squawking of a moron with no clue on national TV
I agree that it sounds like a moron squawking, but it isn't. Political corruption closely resembles ignorance and stupidity. When demonstrably intelligent public officials say moronic things in public, that my friend is a huge red flag.
These are ridiculous and unsubstantiated claims. Please link to credible documentation for each one. On the face of it, your list is little more than superstitious belief.
Hear, hear! I for one am sick of the penchant for sci fi space-adventure magical-religious cultism that is so popular here on slashdot. People can believe whatever they like, but I definitely draw the line when they start clamoring to spend billions and billions of taxpayer dollars on this crap.
This type of mission has great potential for positive economic return... we should master mining the asteroid belt for resources first because it is easiest.
Positive economic return? How much would it cost to go get 1000 tons of, say, bauxite and extract the aluminum? How much would the resulting aluminum cost to produce? Would there be a "positive economic return?" Answer 1) bringing it back to earth, 2) doing it off-planet (you still need to bring back the aluminum, though). Include the cost of building the presumably amortizable off-planet refining facilities. Since you are making that ludicrous claim, it is up to you to substantiate it.
You are raising phantom issues. The point isn't to do something useful and intelligent with great efficiency and resourcefulness. The point is to spend money. Lots of it. Lots and lots of it. Few things are better at spending money than making things be able to fly around on their own.
Defense Industry rep: "We're running out of gimmicks and excuses. How can we spend more money on really expensive idiotic military equipment?"
General: "Put rotors and wings on everything! You know, humvees, 55 gallon drums, propane tanks, latrines. Hell, let's make backpacks with rotors and make all our troops fly! Or jetpacks! That would be fucking cool!"
Oil Industry rep: "Yeah! Think of all the fuel they would use! In a war zone! Imagine the premium per gallon!"
Other Defense Industry rep: "Can you imagine how much each one of those things would cost! It's a fucking fortune!"
[They now all slap each other on the back and light up some cigars; Lobbyists take feverish notes]
Our nation is practically bankrupt, over 10% of the workforce is chronically unemployed, thousands are getting thrown out of their ex-homes per month, we are mired in two unbelievably expensive military occupations that do absolutely nothing to defend or protect our nation, and some asshole decides we need flying fucking humvees.
The abstract ends with this disturbing assertion based on their statistical study of a large amount of empirical data:
"The time spent sitting was independently associated with total mortality, regardless of physical activity level. Public health messages should include both being physically active and reducing time spent sitting."
In effect, no matter what else you do, the more time you spend sitting, the shorter your lifespan. That is some nasty shit.
They recommend the following, although there is no indication whether this comes from the cited article or it is an ex recto list:
"To squeeze in some more exercise at the office, try a few of these tips:
"Take frequent laps around the office or outside.
"Find an exercise buddy at work and agree to get off your butts several times each day.
"Stand up and stretch every hour. Set an alarm on your phone or computer to remind you.
"Do calf raises: while standing, push yourself up on your toes, hold, and release.
"While sitting, squeeze your butt: tense your gluteals, hold, and relax.
"While sitting, raise your shoulders up to your ears, then back down."
Given the astonishingly poor wording in the article, I would speculate that this list is pure unsubstantiated arbitrary touchy-feely bullshit. They sound pretty ridiculous.

I hope you meant "the latter," or more correctly "the last one."

GET RID OF GLENN BECK
We choose to do it not because it is easy, but because it is hard.

Of course, people could just change the diapers more promptly.
Are you referring to 444983's sig? There is a passing resemblance to the manifesto.

not unlike Microsoft's Kinect
I wonder just how much "not unlike Microsoft's Kinect?"

Hear, hear!
Only problem: it would end the massive gravy train that drives the whole process.
I'm not so sure about the "smarter and smarter vehicles" part. It seems like a pretty stupid and unbelievably expensive idea, on the face of it.
What? And give up all that money? What do you think the point of the game is?
More like:
