never had this on any freebsd version (ssh(2) on macos x as the client) the key never changes, even through complete recompile upgrades and downgrades, and ssh on macos x _does_ check them ( i once tried monging the key, and it totally refuses to connect)
the simple reason you had 101mb of dependancies is because its _X_ chat:o)
it needs an x server to run on:o)
you surely can spare a bit of space to run the x windowing system? things shouldnt be as bloated afterwards
it hasn happened yet- but what i think the original post meant was that microsoft cannot win the war against linux- it _will_ prevail, in part because microsoft is painting itself into a corner with its horrific licensing schemes, and in part because the public at large is becoming more and more aware of linux in all its forms, and that its free (they dont know exactly that its not necessarily free to buy- but 'hey, the word free was in that news article on that news show' is what Mr Sixpack will say). the more press it receives now, the mor ethe sheep will think that they need it.
all i can hope is that the Russian law enforcement agencies attempt to extradite the agents who carried out the illegal hacking of the computers that were on russian soil, the whole principle of the american government being able to attack anyone's network with impunity, in any way they see fit, as long as it isnt in the us is horrific for us in the rest of the world. It's made alot of nonamericans very wary about ever helping American law enforcement, seeing as they deem it perfectly legitimate to ride roughshod over the sovereign rights and laws of another state.
i would have to say that texture compression will help both in terms of texture memory required, and memory bandwidth usage, alot of these more modern cards have onchip texture compression/decompression with no performance problems- and modern texture handling stops horrifically bad looking textures
any site that totally blocks mozilla coz (they dont like it/cba to make sure their nonstandard shite works on it/dont want to have non ie lovers use their site) isnt worth viewing:o)

woah there- whilst i agree with you that theres no reason to insult people in a semi troll- for most of us 'joe users' out here app compatability between ms oses is not really too much of an issue- to be honest no more (or less) of an issue as the gcc issue that this thread was originally about before the flames started flying. the issue that nt couldnt run games was long known about and was something to do with the direct x issue with nt- other than that i know 95% of apps will work on any ms platform (assuming they are not designed to use features in the newer (or older) oses or are apps designed to fix or maintain parts of newer or older oses (ie ntfs disk defragmenting app)
he's almost right on one score- winxp is the most stable _microsoft_ platform about- bear in mind that its not exactly hard to earn that accolade though:o)
nowadays for office only machines i see no reason to use a windows box, its only for games that its really needed (wineX/wine just dont cut it yet)
