The moon is a siren call diverting our ships from mars, as much as a huge space station is. Read Zubrin's book, it explains those things very well! The moon is a nice goal in itself, but serves zero purpose in going to mars!
You're think red/green glasses which only allow a kind of black/white picture in 3D. State of the art are polarized glasses with left/right spirals, so you can have full color and change your viewing angle (unlike the early polarized glasses, which were linear and had you feel nauseous when you tilted you head a little). They could indeed be made into contacts, as far as I see, but they still have one of the major problems of polarized optics: They massively reduce the amount of light that reaches your eyes, so it's a bit like wearing shades all the time (The cinema can counter this be cranking up the projector, the real world however...)
> I've never read any such complaints. You're kidding right? The "old news" complaint is even more prevalent than the "news for nerds?" ones (and just as invalid, as far as I'm concerned), it might also outdo the "dupe" ones (which, at least, have some merit). Trolling, yes, but you can only have missed them if you read "above 3" (or something) and only after the mods have had time to sort the wheat from the chaff (Hint: the mods are even less of a journalist than the editors, they're people like you and me)
I had indeed heard about pure Capsaicin Crystals, but using them directly is not really interesting to me (besides the obvious freak factor:-P), because I still want some other tastes to be picked up by my tongue simultaneously, thus anything over 500000 Scoville (SCO-Ville? Now that's a thought...) is not practical. Nice thing to have in the cupboard for freaking out friends and mothers, I'd say:-)
...I'm very glad to hear this (though it is, like most stories involving cancer, FUD or euFUD, it's "positive" counterpart). I will happily continue to put Dave's Insanity Sauce on my dishes:-) Anyone knows where I can get DI Spice or Vicious Vampire in Germany cheaper than at pepperworld.de (Especially VV is expensive at 10)? I want to try upgrading myself from grade 9 (50000-100000 Scoville) to grade 10 (100000-500000 Scoville), the hottest possible stuff (All above 500000 Scoville isn't produced for food, because humans apparently can't distinguish the taste anymore) for bragging reasons:-P
Read the first article again. They said it was invented to reduce mechanical failure (no word about typing speed), which is exactly what that article states it was for.
*pfff* I have posted frost pists, found dead in his home and other troll texts, as well as answered to trolls, taken part in flame-wars and my fair share of off-topic strolls like this one. Nearly half of my moderations are meta-modded unfair and I rarely use my meta-mod-points. Still for years I have not sunken below Excellent Karma. How does one actually achieve lower Karma (Not that it would make any difference)?:-P
I don't think it's possible to create story for thousands of players in the same world at the same times. You can either have hundreds of story writers (I wouldn't call them GM...), but then you have to make sure those stories don't accidentally intersect or players hop randomly from story to story (The NWN way, but not Massive Multiplayer in the typical sense), or you can have few writers that can only create a shallow story, since, let's face it, not everyone is a world saving hero, so having every player partake in one epic story is going to be lame (possibly leaving one player the bragging rights for killing the demon/devil/tanari/shadow/old one/whatever), which gets worse once you start repeating these events (How pathetic is WoW in that respect? How many people were successfull in Molten Core? There is a nice german webcomic about that aspect: http://wow.gamona.de/index.php?seite=pp&pid=126&si d=23 (I don't know when the translation will come out)).
Essentially, I think the RPG Group-of-Heros approach only works well in environments where there is just one group, thus pen & paper, single-player or small groups multiplayer.
I need to this to work for windows users as well, so setting up a tunnel is way too much hassle for practical means. Is there nothing supporting encryption out of the box since PGPfone anymore? Sad state of affairs indeed...
Anyone knows whether this, any other SIP, any other H.323 or any other free (RMS-style) supports acceptable encryption? Public key preferrable? Since Skype did the Intel thing I'm about to ditch the last non-free app I commonly use, but encryption would be a necessity for me (Given recent court decisions in Germany my trust is waning:-P).
That's correct, the whole "northern" (There is no magnetic field to speak of, so "north" is a convention only) hemisphere is a basin, probably originally an ocean.
Once we include the fact that the CSS standard explicitly includes specs for handling invalid CSS we're on to something... Yes the CSS is invalid, but the w3c states how to handle it in those cases, displaying anything else is not according to spec.
The nose is supposed to turn blue when hovering. BTW: The article points out that iCab & Konqueror don't fully pass (they should remove a scrollbar, which they don't). Nice going Opera:-)
I'd assume the same thing will happen to them that happend to the opera/theatre. Namely only bigger cities will have one and usually only one, that is fully overpriced, but regarded as a "special occasion". Normal people will use their home setups and TVs instead, which are probably shifting towards and Internet-based technology, just like phones are shifting towards VoIP (a single data exchange system is easier to install, maintain, connect to, etc. and thus preferrable as long as you can live with the fact that any reliability issue is going to effect all data streams at once. No calling the TV compay when there's only a blank screen).
Young people will do what they always did, find something new. There'll still be music clubs, discos, etc. and it's quite likely that another public media-consumation-in-a-dark-room venture will develop, if there's a need for that (Which I doubt, today teens don't have to hide the fact that they want to be alone (In a cinema you aren't alone, but noone can see, thats close enough) with their date anymore, like they had to during the 50's).
Hm, Ferengi... Imagine the trouble, rating-wise, they could maneuver themselves into when allowing players to stay on Ferenginar:-D Or a Betazoid wedding... That's R for no-nipples-nations like the USA I bet (though I wouldn't mind making the thing M, as long as players are expelled from starfleet (aka their account) for "gross public indecency":-P)
Instead of something interesting the aim for "Elite Force Online" (The plastic harnesses were crappy there, too, but at least they wore standard uniforms under those), it seems. Grrr. Makes one hack off their {qIvon}, doesn't it?:-)

Many 3D systems make you feel rather nauseous when you watch them without glasses :-)

That's just the usual FUD, everyone knows it's based on the confusion between alumin(i)um (usually employed in "tin" foil hats) and real tin... :-P

Hm, that might actually work :-D On the other hand I'm an anarchist at heart, so I probably can't bring myself to do that :-P

I usually don't, but this one seemed particularly odd. *shrug* /.
And who has asked for a link before me? Not everybody has read the magazine in question, nor even has access to it!
I would prefer having a look at it, so I can understand what the ruckus is about :-)

Because they have a built-in right of way (they are expensive enough for that :-P)

Thank you
