and other similar nonsense. Lawsuits, patent madness, etc..
"Invention" means the creation of a NEW thing (pretty much so)
Invention of NEW things are not easy to come up with anymore, just about everything that can be thought of has been thought of.
What is more important is IMPROVEMENT.. People take an existing idea, concept, product, etc. and with a different perspective than the original creator, improve upon the original design so as to make life better for everyone.
But greedy mega-corporations believe that this is taboo, that only THEY should be the innovators and not the little people. God forbid the little man that has to use the product daily should ever consider improving the efficiency or performance of the product. They live in absolute terror that anyone should ever make ANY money other than themselves.
What will we see in the future? I suspect that in the not too distant future, all the greedy globalists and the neo-con governments will merger into a singularity, to be known as "The Company"..
This single entity will be THE world government body and the single producer and distributor of all consumer goods, from vehicles to vegetables and everything else.
People will be bred on company baby farms and raised to be consumers. Your sole purpose in life will be to consume. You will work for The Company and you will consume the products The Company produces. Anyone caught bartering will be dealt the death penalty. The terrible crime of denying The Company any income is the worst crime that one could ever commit, it is called "Profit Denial" and is the highest form of treason.
Like Taco Bell in the "Demolition Man", The Company is everything, The Company is GOD..
Shhhhh.... What was that I heard? Was it a shell being chambered? Did someone utter the words "Lock and load!"???
Think it can't happen? Better think again, it's under way right now folks...
I picked up a handfull of cartoons for my grandson and a handful of old B movies for myself at the local grocery store for a $1 each. They sold out quickly. I hope they will get some more in and some new titles. A $1 is a bargin and really what most of them are really worth.
When I was a kid, the ticket at the theater was about $1.50, that was in the 60's...
I've recently seen mention that the ticket to see a new movie is around $9.00 BS on that! The only movies that have come out in the past 30+ years that were actually worth the trouble and expense to go and see were the LOTR movies and those didn't come out of Hollyweird, which explains why they were of good quality and good content.
No matter though, all the theaters in this area have gone out of business anyway. The nearest one is a 35 mile drive. With $9 to get in, $5 for a heatlamp special and $4 for a cup of ice with a splash of soda water, I can tell you this, I will never again go to a movie theater. Oh yeah, and of course there's the gas to drive there. At $2.5+ a gallon, I only drive when it's a life and death emergency..
IF, and that's a BIG IF, a decent movie ever comes out, I just wait for it to hit DVD and buy it then. I would rather spend $14-16 on it and have it to do with as I please than to spend $40+ to see it once in a room full of crying babies, kids acting up, people chatting on cell phones, etc...
Hollywood needs to get real. With the raping they keep putting on people at the ticket booth it's little wonder people pirate the movies. If they would cut the salaries of the fat cats at the top of the food chain in half and the self-important actors and actresses, that would be a step in the right direction.
Can someone please explain this "free as in beer" thing to me? I have seen this term used for a long time and I still don't understand it, being that I don't drink alcohol or associate with anyone that does. So this thing keeps going right over my head. I'm not trolling, I totally serious..
Apply the same privacy and security standards to financial institutions that HIPAA requires.
I went to work on a PC at a doctors office, it was the machine that contains patient records. That machine was forbidden from being connected to the internet in ANY way what-so-ever and was forbidden from being connected to their inhouse LAN.
The STAND ALONE machine had a modem in it but it was only allowed to connect to a certain system through a single dial-up line. No other use of the machine was permitted. It had no disc drives so it was not possible for employees to install stuff from home or to copy things from it. The machine was pretty damn isolated from the outside world.
Of course that will never happen with financial institutes because they WANT these things to happen, that way the people will cry for more security. And they will get it, with Orwellian security like retina scans and sooner or later, DNA scans, like in the movie GATTACA
Personally, I have no financial anything. I don't use banks at all in any form. I have no credit, I have no savings or checking accounts, I have no credit cards. I live strictly by cash alone. Everything I own is paid for. I pay utility bills with green cash, in person at the local grocery store. I owe no one for anything. You want to steal my identity? I don't give a shit, go ahead, I don't use it anyway..
Ha! The hard drives I am talking about have been back and forth between the floor in a closet and under my bed. About 2 years ago I dug them out and stuck them in a real IBM XT that I still have and they fired right up. No surprise to me at all.
AND, they were caked with dog hair. I had to blow them off with an air compressor first. And back when I was using them, I was a smoker so they were also heavily exposed to a LOT of cigarette smoke in the 80's and early 90's...
If it were possible to travel backward in time and alter history, it already would have been. WWII (and others) would not have happened as certainly some future time traveler would go back and make sure that all the BAD dictators would never be born and all BAD things that happened, never happen. I use the wars as a point of reference because they are universally known/recorded events and everyone can agree that mankind would have done much better had they never happened. ANYONE can agree that it would be a GOOD thing to go back in time and prevent those terrible events from ever happening.
So either time travel is not possible, as future travelers would have already gone back and prevented certain things from ever happening OR time travel is possible and the past can not be altered at all. One possibility is that the M-Theory comes into play and any attempt to alter time ejects the traveler into another "brane".. Also see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-theory
No, You and I are going to pay for all of this. Along with paying for the occupation of Afghanistan, Iraq plus all the other places the US currently occupies, and most likely will soon attack, invade and occupy, specifically Iran and North Korea, all in the name of democracy and because "They hate our freedom"(tm)
Its like a hidden tax.. call it an information tax for anyone who wants to get into the ISP business.
By that I mean can you adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad? I'm sure it will "work" but can you adjust it??
I was using a "natural" type keyboard that had a serial Synaptic touchpad built in. Under M$ I could set a LOT of options on the touchpad, like turning off taps and setting the sensitivity. Under Linux, no adjustments were possible at all. I absolutely despised tap to click and the ultra sensitivity. It was so freaking annoying that I quit using it totally.
I just bought an HP wireless optical USB mouse, 800dpi, 5 buttons, scroll wheel, etc.. Can't set the extra buttons to do anything but besides that it works damn nice. Got it at wallyworld for $30..
I WAS booting into 2k just fine, no problems at all, until..
I just took a virgin install of 2000 (this morning) and ran the online update. It of course downloaded service pack 4 and IE 6, then a bunch of misc patches.
After numerous reboots, it came to the last big hurah and downloaded that last few security updates. Reboot and after leaving the 2000 logo screen, instant BSOD and reboot. No getting past it, I tried pressing F8 to boot into safe mode. No go..
So now I have a box that will no longer boot windows. It has Suse 9.3 on it also so I just let it boot into that, which is what I use 99.9% of the time anyway.
The ONLY reason I even have windows on any machine I own is so that I can use the video capture on my Gainward/Nvidia VIVO GF4 Ti4200 card. The RivaTV project is dead in the water, they haven't touched it in over a year and it does NOT work anyway.
I am so pissed that I spent so much on that card and I can't use it under Linux. And now I can't boot the Windows partition either. I don't want to reinstall windows all over again and f**k up my Linux install..
What a pain in the ass. God I hate Windows. And I hate f**king proprietary hardware too.
And I don't want to buy another GD capture card, I want to use the one I already have right now and have only gotten to use like 2 times in two years.

Come on you jerks, how about building one on a budget, something that the little people that WORK for their money can afford.

I have old full height 5.25 hard drives from the IBM XT days that STILL BOOT and still have viable data on them over 20 years later..
200gb drives can be had for under $100 on ebay.
Load them up, remove them and store them in a fire proof safe..
Problem solved..
