Yeah, but there is a personal satisfaction factor you forgot to consider. There just is no way to describe the JOY of hacking an Xbox and loading Linux onto it. It's a real poke in the eye for Bill Gate$ and that is worth it to me.
And there's the geek factor to consider too..
There are many benefits to hacking the xbox, most of them involve personal issues...
People use pseudonyms so that they can speak freely. So they post something that some nutcase doesn't like, then the nutcase hunts that person down and whacks them.
Or people want to speak out against the government. Which seem to be what the government there wants to put an end to..
Fear the government that fears you.. When the government restricts your right to speak freely on any subject, no matter who it may offend, it is time to abolish that government....
Doesn't everyone in Rome drive these things?? You always see in the movies a zillion scooters all over the place with fine ass Italian babes on the back.. Hmmm, I wonder if that would work for me? Scooter = chick magnet??
Just glancing over it this looks like a take off of the Sterling engine. I saw mention of heating air and cooling air and other "Sterling like" things.. I'll read it in full detail over coffee later but it looks really neat. Good link...
Electric vehicles are great, BUT, how much fossil fuel must be burned to recharge the batteries??
If they are charged by solar panels then that it fantastic and I'm totally, 1000% for it. But it they are burning oil and even worse, foreign oil, to charge them up, then it seems to defeat the purpose. Electricity doesn't grow on tree, unless you burn them for it. And it doesn't rain down from the sky either. Oh, wait a minute, it sure does! You just have to use the right collector to catch all that free energy....
Let's get cracking on non polluting, FREE energy.. Hydroelectric has enviromental consequences that are far reaching and difficult to see in the short term, oil & coal is just not a good thing. NG is the lesser of the fossil fuel offenders but it too has consequences that are far reaching.
Solar, wind, geothermal are what we need to pound on, over and over.
I would like to see the roof of EVERY house and building in the country covered with solar panels and use them to power small collective, community grids. And in places where it's feasible, windmills too. That and more energy-efficient designs in appliances, lighting, heating, cooling and most importantly, insulation procedures.
This country was designed and built in a very energy wasteful manner and still operates under that mindset. We've GOT to change.
I thought that this *was* about using it in a business enviroment. No place for games. And in a business enviroment, as you say, you don't let the employees have that level of access. They should be restricted to using ONLY the apps required to do their work and nothing more. That is unless you are into that pain and suffering kick...
It's hard to say anything bad about the latest release. Works great for me. And I've set several first time LInux converts up on it and they not only like it, they have a fairly easy time adjusting from windows to Linux.
More crap to clog up our landfills.. What wonderful foresight these folks have. And I wonder what sort of toxins these things leech out over time as they sit in the ground, usually right over the local water table....
Stupid bastards. They only care about that bottom line, more money, total profit. To hell with the enviroment, as long as the fat cats at the top of the food chain get fatter than they already are. They don't care about anything or anyone else..
Just boycott this crap and kill it off like the last wonderturd they laid....
I have a much better idea, tattoo barcodes

Patent this, copyright that. Gimme, gimme, gimme! When I stand back and look at all this crap of late, I am reminded of the saying from Highlander, "There can be only one!" in that they seem to be all in a power struggle to control every aspect of our lives. what the retards are "singing" about?? I've heard that crap my son listens to and there is no way a normal human being can understand it.
I heard a song on the radio and I SWEAR they were saying "mother f*cker" over and over, I could hear it clearly, or so I thought. I was pissed!
Well, Mrs. MPA, I am not going to go buy the sorry-assed CD just to read the included lyrics. I went to the net and found them. Turns out the song was saying something else but they intentionally played tricks to make you *THINK* they were saying "mother f*cker"..
Some more of that MTV mentality..
For PARENTS that NEED to know what sort of FILTH they are pumping into the heads of our children, the lyrics sites serve a great need. As parents, there is no way we are going to buy those CD's just to read the lyrics, that is if they even include them anymore.
What'samatta Mrs. MPA? Afraid we'll find out something? Trying to hide something from the parents are ya?? We know your game and the game is up.
The legitimate need for parents to find out what our kids are listening to far outweighs your greedy little needs to hide those lyrics from the parents.
Shame on you. I think that there should be a central, universal, and FREE lyrics database of ALL "music" (if you can call it that) so that parents can look them up. No ads, totally commercial free. No pop-ups, no pop-unders, no cookies, no sneaky crap. Just the facts. Make it a federal law, the song does not hit the air unless the lyrics are published in a place and manner accessible to anyone for public scrutiny and examination. Don't want to publish your lyrics? No airplay for you. No CD's at Wallyworld or Worstbuy..
Oh yeah, that brings to mind, remember the recent flap over the Charles Manson (the Tate/LaBianca murders) (also soulmate of Marilyn Manson, another sick bastard and waste of oxygen) CD? Kids were buying "music" recorded by this sick bastard from his prison cell. Seems you can buy it not only at Amazon.com but it's for sale at most stores where kids can walk in and buy it off the shelves. I don't know about you, but, NOT IN MY HOUSE!! Some parents care about their kids.
leave it at the eCafe on 10th and Woodward. Put it in a brown shopping bag and slide it under the table at the pc on the north wall that has an out of order sign on it. Make sure no one follows you..
I have a Gef4 Ti4200 ultra/650XP w/128m golden sample from gainward, my pc is 2ghz P4 w/512m ddr. I use Mandrake 9.1 and KDE 3.1 Q3A UT2k3 runs so freaking insanely fast that I can't see ANY reason to have a faster card... Faster for what reason?? What will I gain from it?? $500 to replace something that I think is fantastic with something that I doubt will show me anything better?? Damn, I mean now it's so fast that you can get motion sickness! And on a BIG monitor (yeah!) it 's extremely excellent.
Oh yeah, I watched the giant trailer for the Matrix reloaded on here and it blows away ANY TV I have ever seen. If I were to get an even bigger monitor I could easily do away with my TV set and never miss it..
I'm looking forward to playing EQ on this box in the near future and that's why I bought this card. Of course by the time I get around to installing EQ and signing up they will up the requirements and I'll be forced to shell out $500 for this monster card just to play a silly game.
As always, I'll end up a day late and a dollar short. If I wait to afford this card they will advance the games some more, then make a new card for that and the vicious cycle will continue. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. And the snake eats it's tail...
Hey, Some of the very first phone lines were run through barb wire fences.
The wires were already in place, seperated and isolated from one another on insulated (wooden) posts.
They really, really did use to do this..
http://collections.ic.gc.ca/exploring/homestead/ er lytech.htm "Another type of phone used in this area was the barbwire phone. This phone was introduced in 1945. A barbwire phone was installed by using one pasture fence line for each user. The return feed was made with a grounding post drove into the ground. In the early days people would use the same government phone box with switches and an extra bell. They then moved on to use old telephones, which were available and installed separately. When the barbwire telephone first came out, the wires were stapled directly to the fence posts. This didn't work well. When it rained it would weaken the transmission. Later on insulators were put on and reception would be clear. The barbwire was a good way of communicating; it tended to be very reliable and didn't break down like the government telephone would. This telephone was especially handy when a bull got out of pasture and did not completely break the wire, everybody would listen on their end of the phone and they would tell each other where the lost bull was heading. This type of phone lasted until a modern government telephone system was put in with underground wires. "
