I found a HP Laserjet 2P on the side of the road in front of a beer joint. They threw it out, it was old and broken.
I clipped a resistor on the fan control circut and cleared one problem up, then I bought a recycled laser scanner motor from http://www.backthruthefuture.com for $12.00 and fixed the biggest problem.
I buy toner carts on ebay all day long for $10 to $18 each. So far I've printed about 6 reams of paper on ONE cartridge and have no reason to believe that it's gonna run out anytime soon because all I print is text.
When it does run out I have brand new carts on the shelf and can refill the old ones for $8 each..
I also have a LEZmark Z22 my dad bought me for a gift because it was CHEAP, like $28. I never use the damn thing, I can't get it working satisfactorily with MDK 9.0.
Not to mention that freaking carts are too damn expensive, the stupid thing is WAY TOO SLOW and it's dumping ink like it's trying to paint road stripes..
Naw, screw LEZmark. I won't buy anymore of their shit and I'll be sure to inform everyone I know about their chicken shit practices.

I was watching on the news a few weeks ago and they showed their all new, "state of the art" command and control center, a giant tent in the desert on the edge of Iraq.
The tent was full of computers, I would guess at least 100 and most likely more. There were soldiers sitting at them planning future battles.
As the camera panned about the tent it was extremely clear that every last one of them was running windows.
I saw that and thought, "Oh shit, we're screwed now!!"
I the security of this country relies on M$ we may as well just turn it over to the terrorists right now.
At least this dispells that age old myth about "Military Intelligence" in that it appears that maybe it really isn't an oxymoron after all...

Actually the Brits (or anyone else) did not CRACK the code. They captured several pieces of euipment and KEY books. They just used the monster computers to EMULATE the 12 rotor Enigma's that they did not have, and some other higher level machines.
As far as I know they only had 3 and 4 rotor machines and they used the computer to emulate the bigger, badder Enigma's....
Big deal. Suck the file into a system that does not honor the RMS/DRM process and deal with it. Can you spell LINUX??? Cracking codes with a different type of system is the way to do it. They fail in that they ASSUME that only WINBLOZ users will intercept the files.

But it had some issues with the kernel that made it difficult for a n00b (6 months now) like me to install the Nvidia drivers. I also noticed some rather irratating bugs that I thought would end up being a serious hamper. I use MC frequently and it seemed to not bet there. And the Drax version of grpmi seemed to lock up when I would try to install anything through MCC..
The number one item that sent me running back to 9.0 was the kernel / Nvidia issue. I reinstalled 9.0 then dropped Texstar's KDE 3.1 into it and had my system back to pretty much normal in nothing flat.
IF I had a second machine to PLAY with, I would love to try 9.1 but I need to use this machine, not fight with it..
I first tried out Redhat but went to Mandrake because it seemed to have better support for a fonky video card I was using last year. At this point, I have been using it for several months, I'm familiar with it now so I guess I'll stick with it as long as I can.
BUT, the first distro to come out with native support for my Geforce 4 - Ti4200 VIVO card will get my vote and I'll switch to them. I bought this card for doing editing video and getting it to do that with Linux is a bear.
Mandrake gets my vote for being fairly friendly to n00bs, it's what I recommend to first timers.
Oh yeah, I hope they fix that STUPID SUPERcrapMOUNT in 9.1 !!! Stupidmount is total garbage and makes n00bs go insane! I can deal with it but some people just never will get the hang of it..

When I was a teenager it was cool, the Cylons and ships and all. But watching the reruns now it's so cheezy I could throw up..
I also used to like "Space 1999" I'll bet it's just as corny now. I would like to see the reruns though..
