How does this have to article have to do with DRM? It mentions nothing about encoding of video signal just displaying it. TV still needs to get signal from some source(DVI or component inputs). So how exactly would DRM work, scramble the image on the display so you can't video tape it? DRM has to be farther up in the chain aka sattelite reciever, cable reciever, dvd. And all these output component or dvi.

  7. Re:All I know... on What Has Number Portability Done For You? · · Score: 1

The Number portability fees are big scams, carrier allowed to choose the fee based on how much the system cost them. This also includes marketing to stop people from switching or to get new customers. Some carriers are not charging while others are charging $2+. Biggest part of the scam is that these fees aren't mentioned in the price of the product when you buy it. So when you comparing two plans at the same price from difference carriers, it won't actually be those prices.

Wow that was one of the most biased FAQs, I've ever read. TC has very little to do with DRM. DRM for computers is worthless and everyone knows it, video still has to be output to either analog monitor output or digital to the DVI output, same goes with audio, analog or digital outputs. What TC will do for the enterprise is increase security. I can now have my webservers only run signed applications with my companies signature. I don't have to worry about someone running a hack version of my application, I don't have to worry about viruses and this protection goes down to the chip level. Every bios maker thats aggreed to produce these chips are allowing people to turn it off. If you don't want it, leave the setting off. But if i was IT manager I would make sure it is on, I don't want my employees running unsigned software. Thats a big liability.

DRM is never going be as extreme as FAQ says, consumers won't take it. Look at DIVX. And it also won't work. I remember when disney would only release movies on DIVX and said they would not release movies DVDs. Look what happened. Consumer choice prevails. Only time i would start worrying is when the industries start putting DRM chips into speakers and monitors, and so far i have not seen any of that happening.

Or Xbox live users? Or using video conferencing over IM? Or any of the web conferencing products? Better yet, why should I be double taxed. I already pay taxes on my telephone line, now you want me to be double taxed because I'm using VOIP too? VOIP is only part of the future, SIP which can specify many different types of communication will be the future. People keep thinking our phones are going to be used for voice only, take a look at cell phones. Its going to be text messages(sms), video conferencing, picture messageing(mms) and much more. I guess we could kill it now by over regulating it since change is bad.
