And if you think that's kewl... just check out the NSA's plans for a Death Star.[article] Or perhaps we don't need Bush'd new quadrillion dollar budget for manned space flight to Mars after all. Maybe we can all get there with no fuel. And since it "can stop in mid-flight" we can all stop at the In-N-Out burger joint on the moon on the way.

Not to mention that current air travel isn't technically provable anyway. We all know the concepts of lift and drag, etc., but we also all know that they aren't provable.
Anyone else notice it looks like a catamaran made of two dirigibles with the Spruce Goose's wings?

There's a little program I've been using for years called Virtual CD. More recent incarnations include DVD support. Basically, it rips it all to disk and plays them in a pseudo drive. So go dual head to your plasma, and have your DVD player software open up the VCD/VDVD in full screen to your plasma.
Yes, I got my guns back. But keep in mind that an eye bolt to the frame of the car could be considered a "gun rack" which is illegal in the state of California. For what its worth, when I went to court, the copy was sitting behind me and the judge told him he owed me and our county an apology for wasting our time and money.:)
Um, I did mention why I was stopped and why I was searched. If you read my post, I said they had a suspicion I was driving a stolen vehicle (the reason is that I had a new vehicle with no plates so they pulled me over thinking my truck might be stolen). I showed them the temporary registration and bill of purchase. They read both, *then* asked me to exit the vehicle and searched me and my truck. They found the gun that was being legally transported in a unloaded, locked gun box. The police report said as much, which is why the judge dismissed the case after reading over the police report.
Related, I've had a similar beef with our local California law system. I just haven't had the guts to pursue it in court. The issue is the carpool (HOV) lanes on our freeways. *All* of the taxpayers pay to make and improve our roads. That means that me, the single guy, pays taxes that fund the creation and maintenance of our carpool lanes. Yet, because I'm single and I work alone and therefore have no one to commute with, I cannot use the lanes. Yet visitors from Canada and Mexico, Oregon and Washington (and other states) that don't pay for the roads can use them. The carpool lanes are the only thing my taxes pay for that I'm not permitted to use. If I had kids, they could use the public school system. If I go camping, I can use our parks. If I want to read, I can go to my library. All of these are services my taxes help pay for. But if I want to use the carpool lane, I cannot, and can even be fined for doing so. Personally, I think this is discrimination of those of us that are socially challenged, and therefore unwed.
I wasn't aware that "parking off the road" was probable cause to "investigate an investigation". Surely this is a free country and so long as he wasn't trespassing, parking on the side of the road isn't a crime? I see truck drivers do it all the time. Are they required to show ID? Not to mention, its not just the $250 fine or the invasion of privacy that's at issue. There's also the impound fees, the potential bail/bond fees and lost interest on funds that could be sitting in a bank account, not to mention possible lost time at work, etc. This is what is known as a cop having nothing better to do with his time. I had a similar issue arise recently in which I was stopped while driving to a shooting range and suspected of possibly having a stolen vehicle. I was searched and the gun I was taking to the range was found and confiscated (I live in California where just owning a gun is typically considered a crime). Thankfully, I showed proof of legal ownership of my truck *before* the search which removed the probably cause (not that transporting a gun was a crime anyway). The judge realized this and dismissed the case. But again, its an example of cop on a power trip. Once you refuse to cooperate, they act like the judges themselves instead of just the peace officers they're supposed to be.

Damnit. I meant to put a check mark in there and *not* use it. Now I'll go down with flamebait moderations and lose my precious Karma Bonus. Next time I'll keep my opinion to myself.:)
Offtopic??? Who the heck moderated this? The article was about the author and spent a good portion of it discussing movies based on his works or derived from them. My comment was about his forthcoming book with a movie deal and included a comment taken right out of one of his novels-to-movie. How the heck is that considered offtopic? Stupid? maybe. Opinionated? definitely. But offtopic? not hardly. Someone please help me save my karma bonus and re-mod me.
About your link to why you hate your T30... I just bought a T41 and A) the presentation director software works like a charm, B) it properly detects if I'm docked or not, and C) I bought it over other choices specifically because it DID NOT have a window$ key. Some of us use Linux and don't care about a window$ key. And for the rest of the Linux users out there that must see a windows key, there's a company on the internet that sells replacement FreeBSD, Linux, KDE, and Gnome keys for most keyboards including the Thinkpad standard keyboard. I know its offtopic. A few more of these and I won't have my Karma bonus option anymore... but such is life.

Um actually, no. I happened to be one of the 10+ guys hanging out and playing Paranoia. That little gaming event led to some "what if" stories that sort of birthed the Resident Evil ideas. Three months later, Resident Evil was a game in the works... and a year or so after that, it was being sold.
"I remember [in the early '80s] seeing posters for the small, semi-portable version of the Apple IIc". Just think... if he'd seen an ad for the G4 Notebook with a Linux logo instead, then second two Matrixes (no he didn't write them, but they take from his ideas) might not have sucked so bad. Or maybe Keanu's brain could've been unloaded to an iPod and all the data shared on the internet.:)

Just goes to show what using an Apple can do for you.:) Rumor has it he has another book on the way... and one with a movie deal in the works. Maybe they'll pass on Keanu this time and get a real actor and his next book-based movie won't suck so bad.

Its worth pointing out that the story/idea behind Paranoia was also the primary basis for Resident Evil. The original coders of Resident Evil had been playing Paranoia literally for weeks prior to writing the game. I know from personal experience.:)
So, Linux spends years dominating the server market and finally starts to make it to desktop acceptance. And what happens? The rug starts to get pulled out from under us and the licensing that makes Linux distributions so *free* and *open source* start to be more restrictive. First Xfree86. Now Apache. What's next? Samba? Or maybe Gnome? Or, heaven forbid, the Linux kernel itself? Why don't we all jump on the bandwagon and use licensing to take Linux apart one app at a time. Let's shoot ourselves in the foot and give more dominance to M$.

"... If this is the way that Open Source treats its friends, I'd hate to see how it treats its enemies..."...
Well, if he reads the news he should already know how open source treats its enemies. According to more than one publication, MyDoom and the DDoS of SCO is a perfect example of how we treat our enemies. Maybe this should be our new tactic. Forget marketing money, let's just threaten to DDoS all non-open source websites to oblivion. Heck, we all have the MS source code. I say its time to stand up and be the hackers that the media portrays us as instead of being people that know how to make a good (or bad) thing better and easier.
This isn't flamebait. Its sarcasm.
You'd think they'd be a bit more interested in fixing the space station that's apparently falling apart according to today's news. Otherwise, their new little space shuttle isn't going to get them to the space station they desire to arrive at. Oh well, no offense to any Russian readers, but we Americans have always thought you were a bit bass ackwards.
Taking out the contractual agreements, etc. the lineage of the UNIX code goes something like this:
AT&T made UNIX and sold it to Novell.
Novell owned UNIX and sold it to SCO.
SCO thought it owned UNIX and licensed it to everyone.
But if we weren't talking about UNIX source code. What if we were talking about a cheap hooker? What if it went something like this:
Brian Roberts (CEO AT&T) nailed Martha.
Brian sold Martha to Jack Messman (CEO Novell).
Jack nailed Martha and sold her to Darl McBride.
Darl nailed Martha, then pimped her out to everyone, then sued them all when Martha got syphilis and HIV.

So now they've shown the code. By tomorrow morning, we'll have Linus, AT&T, Novell, etc showing that nothing is wrong with it. And most interestingly, according to the countdown, they only 3 hours to file suit if they're going to follow through on their 90 promise, yet its 7:45pm here in California and all courts east of here are closed. The only way they can file suit now is to do so in Hawaii where its only 4:45pm (they don't honor daylight savings time). Of course, they only have another 15min. I hope their legal counsel has offices in Hawaii.

When you're too lazy to do your homework, what do you do? You cheat. And that's exactly what SCO's trying to do. Rather than do their homework and realize they have no case, they're trying to make others do it for them, and in a sense cheating. Case in point is this article which seems to pretty much clearly show that SCO is full of their own crap. There's a saying that if you tell a lie long enough, you'll start to believe it. And that's exactly what SCO is doing. They're trying to push the lies so that people will believe them. In reality, its organizations like IBM, Novell, AT&T, and groklaw that are doing all of SCO's homework for them. Heck, SCO even tried to compel IBM to show source code for AIX and Dynix which would effectively cause IBM to make SCO's case for them. This is turning into nothing more than sensationalism for SCO. Any bets on how much SCO stock is sold off tomorrow?
