I agree with most of your points. With one exception. It does appear that the Apple backlash has been helpful. We probably wouldn't have seen this had it not been for the public outcry.
No. We want the rules to allow us to agree to other people's rules for their code as well. The GPL does not allow this, hence we don't use GPL code.
That's basically the same thing. You want the original authors to change their rules to suit you.
So, you can be absolutely sure that all potential software companies whose software we might want to use could be persuaded to allow us unlimited licence to sell copies of their software at a lower cost than them? Given that these companies make 100% of their revenue from selling copies of their software, I consider this unlikely. If you think they will dop this then you are rather naive about the realities of the software industry.
No, but why do you assume that OSS developers should change the way they license their software?
Of course, then there's the other problem. If we violate the licence of a commercial company, we have a legal problem. If we violate the GPL, not only do we have a legal problem. We have a PR problem.
That's not really a problem just don't violate the license!
I'm sorry it's just the same old complaint over and over, with the same solution. If you don't agree with the license terms don't use the code!
I'll give you this, at least it doesn't sound like you are advocating using GPL against the license, or claiming that it's not valid:)/p
Great.. then they would just raise taxes to pay for the higher administrative costs. Of course, that would mean you would then have to make sure that a person only paid for the admin costs that he/she used... which means.. wait for it... raise taxes again.. etc..
With the way Microsoft keeps pushing back the release date for Longhorn, I might be around to try it, I am 39 after all:) Seriously though, it's too late for Microsoft for me anyway. They've had their chance and failed it miserably.

Jeez, just typing the name sent chills up my spine.
Nope, that's when you keep all email to management requesting the required software and their response. When the deadline is missed you show it to them.
Believe me it will only happen once or twice. You may catch some heat from it but it does work:)
I agree with you to a certain point. But, if you criticize my code you had better be able to back it up:) This paves the way for discussion an improvement for both of us.
Well... he did ask for it :)
Yes, I'm from the south :)
The bully's parents of course.
Surprised? Nope :)
Hopefully, a lot of trouble!
Of course you can declare war on an idea. Look at the success of the war on drugs... oh, never mind...
I have had the non-compete narrowed a bit at one job. I asked to have it changed to be only while employeed by the company.
I've never agreed to the everything belongs to company deal.
I consider myself a unix geek though. I just feel more at home in that environment.
Yeah, good point :(
To be honest I don't really care. I don't want their calls anyway!

We can only hope politicians don't read /. :)
Hmmm... proof that Apple was right? :)

Yes, I would, and as painful as it would be, I would be looking for another search engine.
