I got a gift card from gap like i get evry year, but i cannot order from them this year. They redirect linux users to a page that says that their browser is not compatible ith gap.com. I worked with tech support at gap.com for a while and they told me to change my firefox UA to say I was on MS Windows. Thats the only fix they could recommend.
I told them to get f@cked.
The dumbest part is that they probably could've used BSD code (eg FreeBSD's Linux emulation layer) and done it legally.
Yes, but we all know, BSD is dying. Better to use Linux code.
The new Netscape lets you choose between the gecko engine or IE's engine to render any page. You can have a few tabs open rendered by gecko, and a few tabs by IE, at the same time.
Articles like this wondering why people in the US haven't switched to broadband really piss me off. I have a simple reason for not switching. There is nothing remotely close to broadband available where I live. My choices are dialup, and getting hosed by a satellite company. So I pay the cash to the satellite company, but its far from broadband.
voted in favor of throwing out the European Parliament's efforts to keep software patents out of Europe
voted to throw out the efforts to keep software patents out? so, now the efforts to keep software patents out have been thrown out, software patents have no resistance? this is good?
What kind of an asshat do you have to be to "accidentally" buy something. Oh, gee, I have to enter my credit card number to download the free version? Ok, here it is...../devils advocate
There are alot of mistaken comments in this thread. Here it is from a Direcway user.
Their service sucks. If you don't feel like tweaking it all yourself, don't get it. I had to (after my professional? install) repoint my dish and actually tighten the bolts. Have had a great signal ever since. I have had no weather outages, even when my Dish network tv sat was out.
The built in proxy server kinda screws with some pages. As in, half your pictures don't load most of the time.
Downloads are always faster than they advertise. I constantly get 1megabits/sec. I have seen a max of 1.7. But, here is the biggest problem of all with Direcway. FAP! The fair access policy. Basically, you can download 169meg in an eight hour period. Once you hit that, you are at 56k.
Picture a bucket full of 169mb. There is a trickle at 56k filling it. You can use it all at once if you want, but then the bucket refills at 56k, and thats all you get till it fills up again.
Its great for downloading small programs, patches, mp3's, etc. But no way you can download a Linux distro, or anything that big.
There it is. For me, its better than dialup, but it is far from being "broadband"
Not likely. Everyone I know has switched (office, not os)
I show them open office at $0, compared to MS Office for $hundreds
Not a difficult choice, since they work exactly the same for most people to type documents.
I signed up for direcway satellite because its the only "broadband" service available in my area. (I use the term "broadband" loosely.) After its installed, contract signed, and my wallet was emptied, I learn about FAP. They don't tell you about FAP. Not before you sign up, and not after. Its not until you break FAP that you learn what it is.
Satellite is better that they tell you when you buy it. Its advertised as 400K down. I get 1.5 to 1.7Mbps down most of the time. Then FAP happens.
FAP is their "Fair Access Policy"
What that means is you have full speed till you download 169meg. Then you have less than 56k connection(sometimes none at all). Thats 169meg in 8 hours. Thats all you get!! Granted you get that 1st 169meg incredibly fast, but then you are done for the next several hours.
How can you call that broadband?
How did Nissan get a list of Tesla owners and their email addresses?
False. Car odometers NEVER show a faster speed, or any speed for that matter
For each gallon of city water used they draw about 2 gallons of water out of the sump.

You can install suse without yast if you prefer to edit all config files by hand.
Ahhhh, the damn messages are still scrolling
I am watching beavis and butthead on MTV2 on Dish. Maybe they worked something out?

Wouldn't the presidential election be in 2064? Its every four years, right?

That has never been said. Read here
