Yup, I've been thinking about doing something like this at the college I work for. Closest events in the calendar, any "broadcast" info, etc. Many at the college use Mozilla, so making it the home page (or call it from the shortcut so tehy can have their own home page) for the browser or that page that is oh-so-annoying in part of the mail/news window. I typically disable it in the prefs, but if it was info that actually pertained to me/my job/etc then I'd probably keep it.

Hylafax and some glue (LAMP, php-cli, mailm, and some bash script). Print to a samba printer (search for smbfax, then re-write it in a few lines of bash), sends email to smbusername@localhost, user checks email, enters destination number and some cover page info, fax sends.

Its been running for just over a month now, 3000 faxes in, 2000 faxes out, no issues.

IIRC Quake3 used separate threads for sound and video.

In my own experience with both a dual P2-450 system and a dual AMD 1.2ghz system is that the game will run on one cpu and the OS will use the other... simply balancing the load between both processors. Quake2/3/UT/ET ran on the dual 450s with comparable oomph to a single 1ghz system.

Many times it is a RPM limiter on the engine. Speed = rpm x gearing (plus stuff about tire diameter, etc). For example, in one of my cars 3000 rpms in first gear is good for 12mph, in second it is good for 30mph, 45mph in 3rd, and 60mph in 4th (standard gearing for a '65 Porsche 356C). So assuming there was a limiter to keep it from going above 70mph, then you wouldn't be able to go above 15 in 1st because you'd have to limit the rpms.
