I signed up for AOL once to see whether I could support their address book in my program (I could not) figuring I would cancel at the end of the free trial period. So, I made the call end, to make a long story short, I ended up having AOL for over a year for free. Every cancelation call would extend my free trial. I actually had some use for AOL at the time end I finally got them to pull the plug once that utility disappeared.
Now I'm back with AOL because I moved to a new location and Verizon is taking 2 months to set up DSL (that's horrible service by the way) and sure enough they offer 2 months free now. I hope they let me cancel.
It may have been, but it presumably reflects his opinion and is relevant to the discussion, so I see no problem if someone replies to it.
And I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this statement.
Shouldn't that be the other way around? As far as I know you don't run "Linux" on top of GNU HURD. You can certainly run GNU on top of the Linux kernel. Now you can argue whether you are running GNU or Linux or GNU/Linux as the "OS" in the above scenario, but you are definitely not running a linux "Application" with Linux "OS"
I don't know who's going to read this 5 days later, but this is not true. When you're year old, which year is it now, counting from your birth? It's the second year. Thus when you are 2000, you begin the 2001st year, so you turn 2000 t the end of the 2000th year and it is now year 2001.
Funny, I went through Slackware -> Debian -> Mandrake. I think it had to do with how much work I wanted to get done _on_ the OS (setting it up, that is) vs _in_ it. Plus Slackware was the distribution of choice back when I first installed it. Downloaded all the packages over a not-really-56k modem too.
For administrative tasks, try Computer Management. %windir%\System32\runas.exe/user:administrator "mmc %windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc"
This has most of the administrative tools in the one snap-in.
For other control panel items, I use a roundabout solution with %windir%\System32\runas.exe/user:administrator "c:\program files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe file:///c:/" which essentially gives me Windows Explorer, from where I can navigate to Control Panel.
You are right, despite what it says in the help file I quoted (which you can open by using the "User Accounts" applet in Control Panel and clicking on the "Creating a user account" link), I am actually able to create new accounts from the "Computer Management" snap-in.
That site is incorrect on many of the points. You cannot create any kind of account as a power user. I quote forom the help file: "Want to create a user account for someone? This is a task that only a computer administrator can do. If you want to create a new account, ask someone with a computer administrator account to help you." You also cannot change other users' passwords. You cannot run Windows Update. You cannot install most programs.
I know. I've set myself up as a power user (*not* the default) and I use runas to do most administrative tasks without logging in as Administrator.
Actually, I would because both have many quality episodes, most of which would never have been written had the shows been canceled in the first season.
I don't know how true this is (and Dictionary.com disagrees), but I was taught that the word Revolution meaning a sudden change was coined because the idea of Earth revolving around the sun was so "revolutionary". The term Evolution was then coined as the opposite of revolution. Could anyone in the know comment on this?
I'm pretty sure words like "honor" were deliberately re-spelled by Americans in the aftermath of the revolution to distance themselves from the British
Personally, the reason I bought the Athlon XP 1600+ I am now using is the requirement of 450 MHz by Visual Studio.NET. Yeah, some launch event. Free OS, free development suite, just nuy a computer! (the old one was Pentium II 300)
I find speed differences to be negligible between Mozilla and IE. What's bugging me is problems experienced when resizing windows. This is usually unnecessary to do in general-purpose browsing, but with the help system, I do it all the time to be able to see the interface elements I'm reading about... and suddenly I'm reading about something else. This goes back to Netscape 4.x and it really puzzles me how after years of development the final version has this problem.
I wonder why http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~zakharin/Software/zd-en try is the first entry in a Google search that points to my site. It is not actually on ZD-NET nor is it linked heavily from anywhere on my site or outside
I've heard somewhere that the Monica Lewinsky scandal started because of a rumor someone posted on AOL. Mind you, I have no idea how much truth there is to this.
Funny how none of my computer classes (at Penn)ever use any MS product whatsoever. All the work is done on Solaris X-Terminals using Java, C, ML, SPARC assembly. Sure they have MS tools freely available in the labs, but they specifically state that all programs must compile on the Solaris tools in the end.

Visually designed means designd in Visual Studio, right?

You do realize that IE 6.05 will have popup blocking early next year.
(I am a happy user of Firebird and it will take more than popup blocking to make me switch back)

And some technically advanced users are not millionaires and are using the same 15" monitors since 1998
According to B&B themselves this "pick up where first contact left off"

Check out yesterdays forecast weathermap
Wow, a sig from Groundhog Day? Never thought I'd see the day
So when are we going to see gigaquads?

The halting problem is not necessarily outside of P either since it certainly is in NP and we do not know that P!=NP
