It's pretty funny the number of people backing O'Reilly on this one, considering whenever somebody else (apparently not important) posts similar ideas, he's considered flamebait and a troll (heaven forbid we have people that are more open-minded, or at least take an objective stance).

How many CD's are the usual linux distros (and I'm not talking netinst images). Hell, I can afford to download three more floppy images (even on a 56k line), but downloading more ISOs can become cumbersome. (And arguing that retail boxes come with the CDs doesn't reduce the bloatness.) (And arguing that they're optional packages only furthers the notion that it's bloat).

And at the same time, based on your karma, you're limited to the number of times you can post (based upon karma level) within a 24 hour period. So, how does it not matter?

And even still with a qualitative term, we're still being told karma matters since there are thresholds, so people will just try to get the next level, just being capped at Excellent. Why not just do away with the karma system all together? I'm not saying lose the moderation ability, but don't apply it to accounts.

But then again, those with no lives at all will just tally up the moderation. But, finally, if that be the case, lose the moderation points too, and just use textual descriptions there.

What's the point of having an open discussion forum if the moderators are simply going to moderate biasedly? Yes, I know that this is an old topic, but why even have the forums then?
