This happened in the US to some lady in a minivan. She blew through redlights in the middle of a town, and claimed that it was the cars fault and she couldn't stop it. There are tapes of the phone call to 911.. personally I think she was full of crap, as is this guy. I don't remember what the police though...
Exactly.. but my point was, there are most likely more "unofficial" remixes of a song than "official" remixes of the song... I was responding to the comment that "most remixes are requested"... I don't think that's the case.
You raise a good point about popularity though.. those less popular wouldn't really be concerned with copyright laws... but look what happened with The Grey Album (Jay-Z Black Album + Beatles White Album)
Most popular remixes are done at the request of the artist (or copyright holder), but there are many not-so-popular remixes of songs that most likely weren't asked for..
ie: Cotton Eye Joe Techno Remix, Super Mario Bros Rap Song, Zelda Techno Remix, and then of course the JayZ-I-Just-Got-Acid-Pro-And-Can-Add-Loops-To-An-A capella-Remix... you catch what I'm trying to say?
Simple.. because they've proven themselves more than anyone else in the "market".. including Nintendo. These guys made something from really nothing at all. I'm sure these guys aren't the ONLY people involved, but who better to help out Nintendo with something than the ones who did it FIRST.
The thing is they've already built a fan-base. You could say the same thing about sports games (football in particular). Tony Hawk even.. same game, different levels, etc... Gran Turismo will sell well... and you know what's funny is they will probably end up making MORE money by the overlap who buy both the offline and online version.
Most people prob. wont even know there will be an online version when the offline one comes out.
Luckily I'm a ESPN fan, and the new football game only cost me $20 bucks;-)
Yes, assuming it is "signed", maybe this will shed a little light on how exactly something is considered "signed". The point the article makes is that it loads an image much the same way a modded xbox loads a harddrive image. Perhaps there is something slightly different going on here.. since it's on a video DVD (an abnormal XBOX structured disc), this may count out the physical structure of the disc as part of the "signing" process. This might lead to new discoverys, and at least count out certain things.
It may not be a huge turn of events, but I really think this will prove to give those of us interested in XBOX modding a little more information.. every little bit helps!
Hopefully this will have a positive impact in the world of XBox modding. It would be nice to be able to run unsigned binaries without modding my xbox. There are a lot of useful homebrew applications out there.
It's interesting that there's no notification that the disc will update your dashboard...
That's what I thought at first, but look at this, but on some of the screen shots (overlapping windows) the shadow is faithful to the edges. Do you think the author edited all the screenshots and added in the shadows?
Is the author using X.org with that shadow hack or something? I noticed all his screenshots have shadows under the window edges. Anyone know how he's doing this?
That's the domain that their employees use. It wouldn't make sense to offer email accounts that their employees have. Google isn't a mail service, gmail is. I really doubt the people over at google want to start throwing out @google.com email addresses. It's like @hotmail.com getting changed to @microsoft.com.
Ex. 2) NFL 2k5. Bugs that interfere with normal usage are unacceptable. I don't want to get home from EB and find out that my new game crashes if I try to enter the second level with a crossbow equipped.
During the holiday season they accept returns without a receipt. I didn't feel I needed to go into gross detail in how he did it.
Basically he would buy a lot of car audio equipment (has a high mark up). He would then give his girlfriend the stuff to return at a different store. She says it was a gift and didn't get a receipt with it. They give her gift cards for the products amount. She then takes the gift cards, gives them back to her boyfriend. He then uses the gift cards to buy stuff at his discount.
The biggest scammers are the employees. I have a lot of friends that work at Best Buy, and I don't know one that hasn't tried to scam them. One scam includes buying stuff with their discount, then returning it at another store (without a receipt) for gift cards for the full price. Another breaks his TV every couple years to get a new one (but waits for this model to be not carried so he can get the latest and greatest). Instead of blaming the customers for whatever their worries are, try looking a little closer to home.
The difference is that Punk'd pulls pranks on celebrities. That is much different than asking experts to debate only to make fun of them by re-editing / taking out of context / etc. Punk'd draws a lot of its entertainment value on the premise that the people in hollywoord are "perfect" people, and the public eye is usually created by the media. Seeing these people upset over something for 15 mins shows another side... None of the people on Punk'd would lose their job or reputation. Most of the time the people involved are "friends" of Ashton Kutchers.
I don't have a problem with Punk'd but this Crossballs thing seems malicious. The guest's reputation is on the line.
Personally, I really miss 7th Guest style games. 7th Guest was actually what first sparked my interest in computer games. I played it at a friends house and thought it was amazing. I then purchased a CD-ROM for my 386 and bought the game. I was in heaven!
Then I realized to play the 11th Hour I needed four more megs of RAM (to up it to 8).;-)
Anyone know if 7th Guest (or 11th Hour) can be run on Linux somehow?
How do you actually go about licensing vintage sounds and sprites? IE: If I wanted to use vintage atari sounds / characters in one of my games or presentations, how would I go about this legally?
Where did you get the piece that the speakers mount on? My cab has been unfinished for a couple years because I can't find a way to close the gap between the top (where the marquee should be) and the monitor bezel.
Just to clear something up, I said "logo", not "log". You keep using the "log file" as a joke, but it's not what I said. I was referring to the many times I need to send logos to people I talk to on IRC for various reasons. It's faster to just fire it over with DCC than to post it somewhere, or email it. The same with PHP scripts, or any kind of file really..
You may be right that most of the BANDWIDTH is taken up by some type of pirated file, but I doubt the same holds true as far as the overall NUMBERS of transfers. Not everyone on IRC knows about pirated software channels...
Um, yeah. Just about any time I need to send a file to a friend on IRC I would use DCC. For example, "Hey take a look at this logo", or "You need help? Send me your.cc file".
It seems like you have only been exposed to bots using DCC to send you files. You are talking about someone who distributes music on IRC or whatever, when in reality DCC is more than a means for bots to offer files. Normal users send files too... it's just like sending an email attachment.. you use those don't you?
Firefox crashes quite a bit on linux from what I've noticed. I use the binaries supplied from mozilla.org, and every so often Firefox will just disappear. It's not consistent though.. for example, weather.com seems to do it a lot, but not everytime.
Perhaps Mozilla 1.7 is vulnerable to the same type of random crashes Firefox is on Linux?
A little late on this comment, but couldn't a defense be:
"Well I WANTED to download the fake UT2K4 that's a trojan and phones home.. I heard it's a neat program"
It seems like anyone "caught" this way could say that.
I'm just waiting for the I20 drivers to finally compile cleanly in 2.6. I haven't been able to compile 2.6 on a server here because it requires I20 support that is apparently broken. Bummer...

Crossbow?? No no, you are thinking of XFL 2k5...

The post actually contains a link to the post you are referencing. I think they meant it as a follow-up.

You're in luck.. right off the homepage:
- Will be released as a cartridge for the Atari 2600
- ROM will also be released for emulators

Couldn't the machines and devices we have sent have just as good of a chance to contaminate Mars than humans?
