So what just happened here is this guy wants an open standard rather than a proprietary one, and you guys mark him down as a troll. If he complained about .WMV, you'd mod that up pretty quick. What's the difference?

And then when people complain that you're Apple shills, you mod them down as well without even reading the posts.

Doesn't that kind of behaviour prove your critics correct?

In my toppost, I calmly explained that, despite the fact that I'm a MacAddict, and have been longer than any of you herd of "switcher" sheep, I *can't* get OSX into my place of work because it's not open sourced, and therefore, the absence of backdoors CANNOT BE PROVEN. This is not *my* rule, it's the **billionaire** who owns the bank. I was, of course, modded "flamebait". The responder, an Anonymous Coward, suggested that I lie to my bosses in order to get OSX approved for use, and was modded "insightful". So if you don't think moderation here is a joke, you're a moron as well. And btw, if you moron mods haven't read Slashdot's official moderation guidelines, they strongly encourage moderating intelligent things UP rather than waste points modding trollish things DOWN - but you haven't read it, obviously. 24. This is a strategic move on MS' part on MS Asking Makers of 'Windows' Software To Rename · · Score: 1

By clearing the playing field of other people using "their" word, it strengthens Microsoft's legal hold on the word Windows. Remember, in the Lindows case, Dvorak and others testified that using "Windows" or "Win" in product names was common practice to denote compatibility or suggested usage, and thus Lindows should be allowed to use it like everybody else (Winzip, windowssucks.com, etc.)

If enough vendors cave in to Microsoft's request, MS will be able to come down harder on those who disobey or try to use it without permission, by showing that it is *NOT* a common practice to use the word Windows and should thus be disallowed.

    This strengthens the monopoly considerably.
