I'm pretty sure that I know what you've been going through. I had been out since my last company went under, 16 months ago. I have almost 20 years Engineering experience and didn't get more than tiny nibbles for over a year. Suddenly several things came up in the space of the last 2 months and I start a new job tomorrow. Whew!
I really wonder whether things are turning around (and hope they are), or that it just takes that long (on average) right now. I know several people for whom it has taken 12 to 18 months.
I'm going the opposite direction from you - very small company to very large company. I've worked for small, medium and large companies in the past and found that each has its pluses and minuses. Right now, employment is my priority and I'm glad to have a job and the company looks pretty damned good, to boot.
If any of you thought for a second that Microsoft would actually abide by the settlement with the DOJ you are on crack. What incentive do they have to abide by it? What is the worst that will happen if they don't abide by it?
Wasn't there something about being hit on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper?
Hey, even Pavarotti has to clear his throat once in a while (old joke - if you don't know it, don't ask).
You know, it's not the horrible, horrible pun that I find funny, but the character of the person who thought, "Dear God, what an awful pun. I better say it out loud/post it!"
Oh, I'd never have said that out loud. But post it at Slashdot....
I agree with your reduction. No condition testing is required - no matter what:
I wouldn't jump to conclusions. One can't implicitly see whether someone_assets is the sue-ers assets or the sue-ees assets, or the type(s) of the variable(s).
True. And as with many things they do, they have a sense of humor about it. At the top of the home page, regarding Winamp 3, it says "ALMOST AS NEW AS WINAMP 2".
For many years, I have been impressed with the work of Nullsoft and their unique style and approach and I have always had the impression that Justin one of the key driving forces at Nullsoft. I fear that under AOL's corporate thumb Nullsoft (like Netscape) may be well on its way to becoming Null.
Good luck, Justin, and thanks for giving us Winamp.
I think that one of the reasons that many consumers of popular music do not appreciate the inherent (potential) audio superiority of the CD medium versus the LP is that the industry has been negating the advantages of increased dynamic range by compressing everything to death and even allowing clipping to occur. I've posted these before, but they're a worthwhile read:
I'm old enough to give this to you first hand: When CD's first came out, few would argue that they sounded better than LP's in terms of frequency response and dynamic range. The again, the North American record industry had been doing a lousy job mastering and manufacturing LP's ("cut the quality, we need profits!"), which gave rise to: 1) people who would pay for (costly, but superior) European pressings and (more costly, but even better) Japanese pressings of a given LP; 2)special high quality re-mastering outfits like Mobile Fidelity and Sheffield Lab that produced sonically superior remastered LP's on higher quality (i.e., less noisy) vinyl that sold for more money.
There almost seems to be a lather, rinse, repeat cycle going on with CD's.
Edison was a true pioneer. He took FUD to new hights. He used paten portfolios to styfle competion in ways never dreamed of by his predicesors. He accuired the ownership of patens in very unsavory ways. He was one of the first to enslave inventors (read developers). Between him and Standard Oil, they wrote the book on monopolistic tyrany. Bill Gates is just extending the techniques pioneered by Edison.

I disagree. There are myriad things that MS could do to please the Slashdot community. They have simply never done any of them.

My battles with my ex proved that.

Looks like it's really just sue-dough code.

Oh, intercourse the moderator.
Darn good stitch-up. Nice to see a loose-knitted community of yarn spinners.
Sew, it's come to this, has it?

And the copyright on that song expired. The RIAA would like to make sure that never happens again.

You're right of course. Killing the economy is the domain of government, coporations, their boards and CEO's, not the common man.
