Many (Most??) ISPs don't even have UseNet servers anymore. If you want usenet, you often have to pay extra. Plus all the problems with having to download 80 files and having to put them all together, what happens when one goes missing... (yes I'm aware of PAR). It would just be much more effective to post it on MegaUploads, or Rapidshare.

Yes, things were so much better back in the day when you had to have a very specific graphics card, or audio card, or joystick, otherwise the game wouldn't work. Developers had to code for each piece of hardware individually. If you bought a 3dfx voodoo card, there was a bunch of game you could play, and a bunch you couldn't. If you bought the gravis ultrasound, you were very much out of luck because most stuff was coded for the soundblaster, and a lot of stuff lacked support for your third party sound card. Joystick support was a complete mess. Also, games don't look 10 times as good, because then they could only run on 1% of the machines, and that is not a big enough market. Sure faster computers exist, but the computers that most people own are probably about as powerful as a console, especially if you look at the graphics chip.

To add to this, on the episode of "The Agenda (TVO)" where they had Bell and others on for a discussion on UBB, the guy from bell specifically said that "50% of the customers who are on the 25 GB plan only use 20% of their allotted amount", which means that there's a whole lot of users out there using less than 5GB a month. So that's a lot of of people who on a pure UBB system would be paying almost nothing. But Bell doesn't want to charge those people less. What a scam.

The best thing on the homebrew scene for the Wii are the media players. It's nice to be able to play videos from my network share on my TV without having a dedicated computer in my living room. I'll agree with you about everything else though. I guess anybody who's really serious about developing homebrew games will just make a WiiWare game. Same goes for XBox, they have XNA for the indie developers. Maybe that's the reason you don't see any quality homebrew. Because people have a better avenue to market and sell their software, even if they are just small time developers. I know I, and many others would pay for a quality media player app. I don't know why there isn't one for sale on WiiWare.

To be fair, I don't really opposed UBB completely. I think if they would have brought the base rate down to $15, and then $5 increments for each additional 40 GB, with a maximum charge of $50 or something like that it would work out quite well. Also you shouldn't have to pay for the extra 40 GB up front, You should only pay the extra $5 increments when you actually do go over. UBB isn't a terrible idea, but the way it was proposed was extremely bad.

I seriously think that had I been born in 2000 instead of 1980, that I would have been branded as having some kind of level of ADHD or Asperge'rs. I do see some potential problem with letting one person stay in office too long, but I see more problems created by a system where somebody is denied entry into politics even if people want to vote for them. Also, the two party system in the US just stinks. The end.

The not so great part is that I still have a 25 GB cap. I could pay for a higher cap, up to 175 GB, and a higher speed, up to 50 Mbit, but I don't have much of a use for that.

Netfilx isn't really meant to be a full replacement of TV just yet. Neither is your internet connection. However it's a pretty good replacement for movie rentals. At $8 a month (in Canada) you can have Netflix online only version for less than the cost or 2 rentals per month. If you compare it to other on demand services, you save even more, because the cable company charges $6 for a rental, and you have to watch the whole thing in 24 hours, or you have to pay again. So, while you can't replace your entire TV package with Internet and Netflix, I don't really see how you expect to, based on the fact that it would be so much cheaper.

To put it another way, according to most other posts, the bitrate of an HD netflix movie is 3.8 mbit/s. Son based on that speed you could spend 87.7 hours a month watching movies. That's over 2 hours per day. So even if you watched a movie every day, you wouldn't use up your bandwidth. And that's assuming you watched in HD all the time, and Netflix was serving up at full speed. While I could see going over the limit, if you replaced all your TV, you'd still end up getting quite a bit of usage out of it. I also recommend going out and getting some fresh air if you manage to use up all that capacity.
