I really think that Apple's move to x86 is such a bold move that it really is hard to tell what exactly is going to happen on the market. I think I've heard "experts" cover every possible scenario, and one of them has to be right, I guess! But really, we just have to lean back and watch Jobs' handywork as it unfolds.
I just can't resist this opportunity to say how much I prefer the colleges in my country (Finland) when it comes to money matters. Essentially, universities in Finland are free of tuitions, leaving only the cost of books (which can be bought used or sometimes even found in the library, if you can't afford new ones.) Of course this is one of the reasons why we pay more taxes over here, but since they all go to things like free healthcare and education, I don't really mind. It's like every citizen in Finland was donating a little to help people like those guys get into school (among other things).
Long story short, the Finnish system gives a chance to everyone who's smart enough to pass the entrance exam. (Oh, and just because our schools are free doesn't mean that they're crap:))
PS: Just one drawback to my glorious portrayal of my country: if you are an unregistered immigrant you would probably be on a plane back home if you attracted attention like that:-/
I know there's been a fair share of MS-bashing already but I just can't resist...
It's pretty funny that IE is so insecure that its security holes exist in other programs:)
How can the government know what traffic is flowing in an SSH tunnel going to the States or Europe or whatever? Or do they have restrictions against that too? Even if they do, as some other poster pointed out, they really don't care. This other poster was modded funny for some reason, I would call it insightful. They don't care what information foreigners get hold of/release, as long as they don't try to overthrow the government. So if you plan on doing that, I suggest you dig yourself a spider hole á la Saddam first:)
I didn't RTFA very thoroughly, but would this actually work? Reading with your fingers is already quite hard, but that is compensated by a better sense of touch in a blind person. But constructing a mental image from a series of beeps? Seems very hard to do, at least for fairly complex images like maps.
This is exactly what I've always thought. It's not impossible to disassemble a program (driver in this case). It's very hard, but not impossible. I'm waiting for some super-geek to disassemble nvidia's linux driver and re-write the whole thing under an open license. He'll get his ass sued of course, but then the cat would already be out of the bag.
I just hate it when I see an article like this... I get about 5 seconds of renewed hope in a BIG scientific breakthrough before I think to myself: "Alright, let's see someone tear this thing to pieces in the comments".
Not that I'm complaining, I usually learn more from these comments than the actual article:)
I don't like it how people see the books as the ultimate truth of how to tell the story... I mean if Jackson didn't make these changes, let's face it... it would be boring. Douglas Adams was still alive when they started making the movie version of his books, and he happily accepted changes, and often made some changes himself. Art should be viewed as something living and organic, not something static.
I'm wondering how much you can change browser interfaces these days. There hasn't been that much new in interface design since the days of netscape (tabbed browsing being a notable exception)
I've seen the magnet while it was still being constructed. Suffice to say, BIG is an understatement! :)
Breaking news: Microsoft has found a security hole all by itself :P
Everything should be like a female orgasm :D
I bought WebObjects yesterday!

Writing Perl is a pleasure... reading it is a pain ;)
My pr0n only needs to last about... say... 3 minutes?

So this will be Microsoft's latest excuse, then? ;)
Quite a cool surname... Box. I bet that most slashdotters would call his family the Boxen :P

DVD-Jon, fancy a new (and proper) challenge?
Wow, Google is everywhere nowadays. I really hope they won't go all "evil corporation" on us.
Obviously the local gag at the lab is printing out a huge penis on your coworker's printer. Literally.

I think his mind is camped out in the 70's.

Am I the only one confused by the headline? Not knowing what "To Go" was, I associated it the same way is in "to go berserk" or whatever.
Don't Panic
yes, this will be perfect for my....... "archiving" needs.

OpenGCC... it doesn't even compile security weaknesses!
