After just recently extracting myself from a horrible job, I can tell you that the advice digital photo is giving makes perfect sense. I can relate to this situation because i too felt that I was unable to quit due to financial circumstances and I was afraid to rock the boat for fear of being fired. Ultimately I had to do a lot of things discretely, I would walk outside to set up interviews, utilize email where necessary. I told employeers up front that I was working 50-60 hour weeks and all were understanding. I scheduled several phone interviews for my morning drive into work or earlier (7:30 - 8 am ish). When I had to schedule face to face interviews, I would do it over lunch or i would schedule a "doctors appointment" or some similar guise. Ultimately you have to realize that 1.) you can probably get away with being a slacker every now and then while looking for a new job. If they are loading you up with work and they need it done, they will take what they can get for a while. 2.)It will take them time to find a replacement for you, so it is unlikely that you would be fired on the spot for taking long lunches, "going to see your mother", or having a "dentist appointment".
Its hard to manage all the stress that comes from trying to work in a bad environment and trying to find a new job but it can be done and in the end you will be better off.
I tried my cable vendor's (Insight) DVR solution and I hated it. No Season Pass -esque feature, slow interface, ugly interface, etc. I called Insight to cancel my DVR service on the way to get my Tivo. The only benefit I have heard to the cable provider solution is that you can record in HD, but that doesn't mean much for me because I don't really watch TV shows for the quality of picture. I watch TV for the quality of entertainment or information being presented and I don't care how good the picture is, if the show is useless I wont watch it.
"Some thought the Trans-Texas Corridor was a pie-in-the-sky idea that would never see the light of day," said Perry, who has compared his plan to the interstate highway system started during the Eisenhower administration. "We have seen the future, and it's here today."
He must not have seen Back to the Future. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
Providing oxygen to illegal downloading? Okay the next time you get in a car and drive on a road, you are supporting drunk driving.
I believe that your analogy is off. The argument being presented in this article is that advertisers are supporting networks/products that allow illegal activity to take place. This has nothing to do with individual action as you suggest with your analogy. It is simply a criticsm of someone (or a group) who is supporting illegal activity with money for advertisement.
The last part of the article mentions RFID tags. Take that and the graphic of the girl with the barcoded forehead and I think wal-mart is trying to implement the mark of the beast. The data mining is just the begining...when will the stores become self-aware?;-)
Alert to all Russian hackers:
Bring down the internet at once to confuse the stupid Americans and stop the information about the two plane crashes. Do not allow embarassment to the motherland!
