    at the high level, we don't have capitalism, we have a fascism of oligarchy. Power and not just money are the coin of the realm.

    capitalism has existed for thousands of years though, hardly unsustainable. And the most inhumane systems of the past hundred years were not capitalism, the extreme socialist ones (misusing the label "communist" in some cases) were.

    these issue were not "posted on slashdot first", the OSI was contacted repeatedly about them by concerned people over the years. yes, years.

    and not inherited "from early days", OSI was in compliance in its early years, then dropped the ball later, even to May 2009. I have proof.

    no, copyright law doesn't work that way: apple (as well as the developer) is still in violation of copyright law and can be sued

    the $13 billion is what the federal government collected from all oil operations on federal land.

    your point about it "belonging" to anyone are just words, the reality is BP gets the oil and the U.S. government gets a 12.5% cut, for no company is going to collect the oil and give it away

    the $13 billion revenue last year from oil is second only to the income tax for the federal government's revenue. Law states that not less than one eight of product value is assessed for royalties, e.g. $32 worth of oil pumped pays $4 to fed.

    most would consider openBSD mainly a server OS, though it has the main common desktop wares available as binary packages there are plenty of other open source OS that have more creature comforts for desktop and laptop use (though I carry USB drive with obsd that does work well with my Toshiba Satellite and for any other thing I need to quickly turn into temporary OBSD appliance).

    cvs update, patching, compiling doesn't take too long on modern normal GHz hardware though, minutes. On the other hand, doing it on my thin client "domain in a can" with 500MHz VIA takes hours, but no reason to sit there and watch it, one minute to type commands, and then sometime later a few seconds to make install. no biggie.

    industrial robots have been used for 25+ years for loading and unloading stamping presses, welding and cutting, machining, etc.

    this is of kind of robot that is fastened in one place, of course, not walking around. but doing real useful work.

    and for at least the last 15 years most have been controlled using MS Windows anyway....

    No, a MAC won't keep an exploit from destroying data files for which a user or application is already allowed access. Suppose a buffer overrun exploit is used to gain control and corrupt the application's database which is allowed by ACL. What is your MAC going to do? Nothing, that's what.

    On the other hand, other features of OpenBSD *do* come into play against such a problem.

    I run it on an HP T5135 thin client to which I've added usb microdrive, I use it as a domain server (apache and postfix) and also irc client under "screen" to a couple tech channels. Got that thin client used on eBay for $25.

    Only pulls 16W of power according to kill-a-watt meter, the only machine at home I leave on constantly.

    no, If I were in charge there would be no sign. and no fed money for state roads, education, healthcare.

    No massive military to project power over the globe, so no korean or vietnam or iraq or gulf war.

    No billions of dollars in overt and covert foreign aid.

    No federal reserve system.

    Thus no need for income tax, with a federal government 1/20th the size or less than it is now.

    Guess what, Windows doesn't recognize *any* hardware in my Sun UltraSparc or HP 9000 workstation. I could whine and whine on Oracle/Sun or HP forums about this if I was like you, but 99.999999% of Ubuntu users buy and use supported hardware.
