How bout what will it connect through? This information must be available somewhere. I'd appreciate a link with greater info. Also, it doesn't mention possible price, or whether the architecture is slower or what, just mentions .018 micron. You get the picture... someone please link me to a better source of info.

Maybe they just want us to think that they're not busted up because they really are and don't want to get cyberattacked up the wazoo! Thanks for reading my rant :-)

Since when is it gnome that gives Linux a point-and-click interface? I didn't notice any reference to the fact that gnome is not "the official GUI of linux". As we know, there is none. Most people use XF86, which Gnome plugs into. More people use KDE than Gnome too, last I heard. I for instance don't use Gnome or KDE. I use E. IMHO (dont flame me for this) E is the most stable, powerful, and fast GUI I've ever used. Most people would disagree with me [laff] but that's my opinion. The point of my post though, is that this article seems to make Gnome out to be the only solution for a GUI in linux. That's not so :-).

Many times through this article he refers to Gray Aliens, only once did I notice that he stated "What a Gray alien might look like" instead of "similarity to gray aliens". Just my $0.02.

Open source does not equal this definition of OSS. When you and I think of OSS, we think "In beta forever, Great once it's released, etc." Keep in mind, that no one is suggesting that we beta test OSS on human beings. In my opinion, what it's suggesting is that instead of Medical Software being developed exclusively by whoever is hired, it will be developed in tandem. The paid software designers will be laying the groundwork and everyone else will be aiding in adding features, debugging, etc. It will simply speed up development by adding lots and lots of people to the developer list. This is a Good Thing (TM).

  21. One more step on FCC Leaves Broadband Alone · · Score: 1

The problem with the idea of opening access up to other content providers is this: It will cost more. If I subscribe to ISP x, and they provide the same content as CableModem Provider Y, I will spring for the cable modem provider. To say that CableModem providers must open their lines up to other companies that compete with them would be foolishness, as they would charge an additional fee. Here's the scenario as I see it:

The FCC decides to regulate broadband access to the internet. They mandate that broadband providers must allow other ISP's to provide the content (web access). So my cable company decides to go along, now charging separate fees for the cable modem and the internet access. Someone gets the bright idea to lower the price to internet access and raise the price to broadband, or worse yet make the internet access free. Now people have a choice between buying a broadband connection that comes with free internet access, or buying a broadband connection and paying additional fees for the internet access. Which do you think the average John Q Computeruser, who doesn't know the difference between phone ISP number one and phone ISP number two is going to pick?

Note: This strategy is obviously flawed for additional content providers, such as AOL, which let you access additional content that would not normally be available through another ISP. But, this is already available. The Bring your own Access plan does this.

I would appreciate it if someone would kindly point out all the flaws in my reasoning, and thanks for reading my rant.

You'd have to have a guy on it all the time just making sure it didn't freeze, you might as well just go with alpha or some other stable platform. Stability IS important, even if it's not the most important. In my opinion, stability is more important than security. What good is a totally secure box (impossibility, unless it's underwater, off, and in 30 feet of cement, even then it might be possible...) What good is a totally secure box if you can't get it to do anything without freezing every 2 hours? OK this rant wasn't as exciting as my last one but it's an important rant nonetheless.

  25. Freeze on G4 Bug Keeps Them at 500MHz · · Score: 5
Even if data corruption should occur, a source said, the result would be nothing more than a system freeze, easily fixed with a restart.

Statements like this worry me. Restarts are NOT ok, and i'm sickened that people think they are. Especially when they're frequent like it sounds like this bug would make them. The world is not windows, if it were then everyone including me would have no problem with an occasional restart. But more importantly, G4's are usually going to be used as servers. Reboots are NEVER acceptable in a server, it can mean 20 minutes of downtime on a website which can mean lost revenue. It can mean lost e-mails within a company which is a VERY bad thing. Get the picture? I'm glad they're delaying the release, of course, as this is not a good bug. OK my rant is done :-) thanks for reading.
