    While it's trendy to bash mr Stevens for his "tubes" remark on such a technology-minded website, it's far from bring his only or even most notable act of incompetence. Here is a Senator who routinely votes on pork-laden bills that give kickbacks to himself and local Alaskan contractors - liek the inafmous "Bridge to Nowhere" that would have costmillions and allowed a small town (can you even call it a town when there's not even 1000 people lviing there? I'd say a village) to save itself a bit of travelling by crossing the river directly.

    Stevens' case is not particularly odd either; it's symptomatic of Congress' Culture of Corruption (if you want it to be catchier, replace them with "Edgy" Ks) wherein a bunch of fatcats scratch each otheR's back. I know its a cliché - but damn it, it's true and casesd like these and Tom Delay's just shove it down our throats day after day after day. What will it take for the ystem to change, or BE changed (forcefully)?

    Just as easily as statistics are used to prove anything, they are disproved with the simple wave of a magic wand....

    Person X estimated number Y! Yeah, as if the current system wasn't based on estimates. Unless you cna prove his estimate was wrong the fact that he chose a median value is irrelevant.

    I'll give you that any good statistic research should include the interval for which it is valid. This is a glaring omission. The rest of your complaints are dubious at best.

    Okay so that is an oversimplification, but you cannot force someone to enter a contract to use something AFTER they have already paid for that privilege. The only legally valid EULA would be one you sign before purchasing the software.

    Note that IANAL and that this is not valid legal advice not an endorsement of any practices explictiely forbidden by EULAs.

    Of CURSE if you include catastrophic cascading failures ANY system is going to look shitty. Simply put, considering the rate of transactions occuring on the market at nay given time, I can safely say that if you invest yourm noey right now it WILL average out to 11% annual gain over any kind of a foreseeable future.

    The Nikkei's downfall has nothing to do with the stock market and everything to do with the housing/construction market, which is an entirely different beast. It would be like blaming Ditech for the Krash.

    Is there any sort of law in the EU that prevents mobiles from being restricted to a single carrier? I simply don't see Apple switching to an open model "out of the kindness of their hearts" or some such as it's not nearly as profitable- and I imagine that AT&T would be mighty miffed when the Euro iPhones are imported to the US....and promptly activated with other carriers for their better service and lower price.

    ...so basically you'd want to prevent the widespread use of video cameras, ACLU or otherwise?... a bit too late for that my friend, most police cruisers come with a dashboard camera....a good number of stoplights have cameras....if you live in the UK, the damn street corners have cameras. They're already everywhere.
