jokes apart, what do you think are the ways someone can contribute if he wanted to ?
I am a java developer and I got started with Linux (Red hat 8.0) only 2 days ago & yeah, although its hard to admit - the huge mouths here did play a role in the switch. I want to get hacking - if not for specific tasks, just for the fun of it. What do you think would be the best place to start ? - ideally not too overwhelming for a nubee.
(P.S: I already want to change the way some RPM installations work - they dont friggin create shortcuts on my start menu!)
i was surprised that none of the gaming gurus had anything negative to say about PC losing out as the gaming platform like this earlier slashdot article.
PCs have so far been one step ahead of consoles in terms of hardware/processing power, hope those innovations (like AI, ability to use more polygons etc) hit the PCs before consoles.
Version 6.0 will be as dramatic a change for the platform as OS X was for Apple, or NT was for Microsoft, and represents the culmination of work from the former Be team Palm acquired last year.
get a bunch of talented developers, innovations will follow.
On the other hand, i am interested to know if 6.0 would have any backward compatibility & run the apps i currently have(NT/OS X had little to no support for apps running on previous versions)
What did East Exodus server say to the West exodus server ?......
You are gonna smoke pot !

You are such a DNS whore! (DNS~=Dense)
not that i am a big fan of nintendo, how could the EU enforce a rule that the price of anything sold has to be the same across the EU states. In that article they compare the price of cubes sold in Britain & Germany. Does this essentially mean that the services (shipping, handling etc)would invariably cost me the same in germany & Britan ?
More over, there could always be the additional language barrier & translation costs for the cubes or any other product. Wouldnt it be a valid argument for price hike from nintendos side ? (although 65% is a little too much)
I disagree with the argument that commercials during movies are different from TV shows because the latter is designed for commercials.
Do you think the screenplay writer(s) of say - friends or survivors designed their scripts with commercials in mind ? The problem has more to do with the audience "not being used to something". With TV shows, we are used to seeing them with commercials when there are options to watch movies without breaks on DVDs and tapes.
Spaniards are having the same problem, the concept with commercials between movies is new to them - they are complaining.
they would have bought the rights to using logos on the screen just as they would have the bought the rights to have commercial inserted inbetween.
I really dont know, am guessing.
have you seen dinner and movie on TBS ? Although i am not a big fan of it and agree that their talk about the movie can sometimes be downright boring, their objective could very much be what you just mentioned: to break down movies into chunks, conflate it with a TV program and present it with the commercials for which it seems more suitable. Good thinking by someone at TBS.
lets see, right off the bat you lose the ability to claim losses resulting out of emotional distress at the court, not to mention - general credibility, after having admitted of black mailing someone. Bad idea.
also , the cost of getting an ethernet card ($25) installed on a new PC is much lower than getting a modem installed ($50). Hey, not much but thats yet another spot where switchers to DSL or Cable can save on.
but dont you think that the fact that these projects are open source would form a greater threat to holding on to their Intellectual Properties than say a project on AOL dialer thats proprietary ?
this ofcourse would be from aol point of view that they want to stop development programs such as these & prevent people from getting new ideas looking at the source.
wouldnt anypay.com or any new competition be infringing on patents that paypal holds on sending and receving money through email ? That should give paypal the edge even if there is a boom soon.
When we think about the possibility of life on any planet why do we always assume that the requirements are:
Water, liquid Amino acids Some sort of energy supply - be it chemicals, sunlight, etc
Why cant there be creatures with different molecular compositions(probably with elements not found on earth) that thrive in different climatic conditions and have metabolisms different to that of life found on earth ? The earth is not the centre of the solar system as it was assumed earlier. Finding life, defined in earthly terms shouldnt be the cynosure of research.
and what makes FTP be more legitimate than PTP?
try getting on to any warez channel on IRC and you will be more than convinced by your assumptions that FTP should be banned too.
its more of a win-win for the university and RIAA/MPAA really. Universities free up resources, RIAA blocks mp3 trading.
It would be naive to assume that their intent here is purely to stop Piracy. If students switched to swapping CDs of music and movies within their campus would they assume the same degree of responsibility and stop them? Probably not , there would be nothing in it for them.
the word Piracy can be used for the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright(Source)

slashdot is a funny beast, people jeer the monopolies and people still jeer at a small upstart trying to take on the big boys.
Slashdot is such a monopoly, it needs competition.
firstly show them some love by clicking here
I am sure someone checks their referral logs & they should get some idea on whats being discussed here.
i heard that Lindows has some kind of security vulnerability because it runs on the root. Does Mandrake or Debian have it ?

"This program includes a reverse ingeenering of the Aol's protocol. "

the soundtracks for this should be allowed for download on all P2P networks.
