  1. Re:Step Aside on The Future of Web Video At Stake In Comcast-NBC Regulatory Review · · Score: 1

My apologies, it wasn't meant to be taken as a derogatory statement. I was referring to the force of habit. These people grew up with only scheduled television, so they'd be most likely to continue using it because it's what they've done the longest.

Just because I wrote something on the Internet doesn't mean I'm a troll. ;)

  2. Step Aside on The Future of Web Video At Stake In Comcast-NBC Regulatory Review · · Score: 3

The concept of having to wait watch videos at intervals set by a company is so very 1950s. This is the 21st century as we have something called on-demand. Yeah, cable companies do it to a small extent, but not like Netflix does. Combine that with the sub-par quality and speed they provide compared to DSL and they're going to be marginalized in the coming years. Even more so when the over 50 crowd dies.

Much like music and the RIAA, they're going to loose the center stage. Which means that you can expect them to start trying to buy politicians (or using the ones that they've already purchased) to pass laws that try to keep their antiquated method of business alive.

I like this proactive step to prevent that.

Texas, why am I not surprised?

People are going to draw parallels between Google and Microsoft or Intel. However, I need to point out that unlike the later two, Google's services are free to the end user. Not only that, but it's also monumentally easier to stop using Google than say, Microsoft.

I don't know if Google is doing what they're accused of, but so what? It's free, I'm not locked in, and they never said that they were impartial (so no false advertisement).

Of course, it was the humans, ten thousand years ago, that were driving their SUVs that caused the last ice age to end.

And again, if you go back to the beginning of the Pliocene Epoch, you'll find that the Earth has cooled since then.

After a couple of weeks, I did something that made my bottom panel disappear. I couldn't get it back, so I deleted my .gnome and .gnome2 folders. Holy cow, did that make a difference. The windows became so much more responsive and features that I didn't have, appeared (I can't remember what they are off the top of my head). So if you are having any problems with GNOME, delete those folders and enjoy. Keep in mind that you'll need to reset all GNOME-related settings such as the desktop picture, panels, and such.
