  1. Ass Monkies on Large Irish ISP To Enact "Three Strikes" Rule For Copyright Violation · · Score: 4, Insightful

What the hell is this? A country race to see who can be the biggest corporate ass monkey the fastest?

  2. Not Canada on China Rejects US Piracy Claims As "Groundless" · · Score: 5, Interesting

I can't really speak for China or Russia, but Canada is no more a haven for pirating than the US. What makes Canada a "problem" is that they have some of the best laws in the world regarding the privacy of its citizens. So that means that a corporation can't just go to an ISP and demand information on a random user and have their account suspended without due process. So Canada's problem is that it values people over corporations.

Oh, and for the record, I'm an American, not Canadian; and yes, I am jealous.

Yes, there's sexism, but more often than not it's simply that not everyone is nice.

  11. Funny Lot on China To Connect Its High-Speed Rail To Europe · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Americans, of which I am one, are a funny lot.

When things are going well, we're a spoiled, petulant group of people. We give no thought to the future or even the present. We will let things get as bad as the possibly can in a first world nation.

    However...

We are at our best when things are at their worst. We will support each other. We'll give to one another when we have almost nothing individually. We become mindful of the future.

Case in point: if you get a sizeable force and set it against us, we will work together as though we were one being and turn our entire nation into a war machine second to none.

So, in the long run, I'm not too worried.

    I don't care. I'm just thankful they're doing it.

I love my country. We do a lot of good things, but we also screw thing ups pretty good. The agreement has been brought to light and, unlike the EU, my country is not chancing its stance. That's what matters.

As for Canada and New Zealand? Thank you too, guys!

  18. WTF? on Leak Shows US Lead Opponent of ACTA Transparency · · Score: 1

Let me get this straight: The USA says nothing on the matter, and someone thinks that France and Italy are afraid of economic reprisals from the USA, and you use that as a reason to say that it's justified to say the IS against transparency? From that, someone saying nothing and someone having an opinion? You and critical thinking aren't friends.

As an American, I feel it's quite certain that USA politicians are against transparency; a lot of their funding comes from the people that want it passed. However, trying to reach that conclusion from the article is moronic.

  19. 2008? on Debunking a Climate-Change Skeptic · · Score: 1

From the article, "Some makes its way back to the earth's surface. Hence we expect to find more infrared radiation heading downwards. Surface measurements from 1973 to 2008 find an increasing trend of infrared radiation returning to earth (Wang 2009)."

This only goes to 2008. Isn't that when things started to cool down and cause trouble for human-caused global warming? Isn't that one of the reasons why it's now called "climate change"?

Have you actually used this new technology? Or are you just talking about the demo video?

I ask because it's not real, and it doesn't really work, until I'm able to do it reasonably well on my own PC. Think about it, wasn't there a demo video for Duke Nukem Forever? And what happened to that?

I'm not saying that what Microsoft is showing isn't cool; what I am saying is that they have a history of over-promising and under-delivering...and sometimes putting out buggy products.

The professions are programmer, CEO, the financial field, doctor, or some other high paying white-collar job. I'm pretty sure that women are underrepresented in coal mines, off shore oil rigs, Alaskan crab boats, and the like. All of those jobs are also high paying, but they're just not...ya know...glamorous or easy to do while still have long fingernails.

    What a crock.
