One spammer buys a few IPs on a block with an ISP, and SPEWS takes out the entire block.
You don't know what you're talking about. As long as the ISP acts to terminate spammers in a reasonable fashion, they don't get listed in SPEWS. It's only after several months of protecting a spammer that an ISP gets added to the block.
I've visited Canada at least a few dozen times, and not once have they asked me "did you buy any blank CDs during your trip?".
No. What they ask you is if you have anything to declare. You're obligated to declare the CDs. If you don't and they search your car -- it happens -- and they'll potentially hold it if they find something.
However, I note you said "visited Canada." Canada Customs is not going to ask Americans to declare things. And I have no idea what US Customs asks returning Americans. The questsions are different depending on your citizenship, you know!
And, actually, your workaround is probably fine. Opening the package and burning one CD on the US side makes it something you used while you were there...
Unworthy of a main page/. story, sure, but I think any software update is suitable for the Apple-specific section. At least it gives us all a common place on/. to bitch about^h^hcomment on the update.
Freedom of speech does not requite that a particular person be bound to pass on your words. The press doesn't print everything that any schmuck says, and likewise in a client-server world the operator of the server doesn't need to carry everything you say.
Oh, okay. I'll buy that. Doesn't seem worth the weight of the suite if that was the only extra you use, but if it's one of a few items it makes more sense. Thanks for the explanation.
I've seriously never had a crash in Firebird, nor even run into a bug. The only bug I've ever run into in Thunderbird goes away when I resize its window. The difference in experiences is interesting.
I've read this a few times, but I really wonder...
Why would anyone use Chatzilla? It's vastly inferior to every other IRC program I've ever used in terms of features, look, configurability and performance.
I don't know; maybe I need to give it another look.
Just curious, who uses the suite instead of Firebird/Thunderbird... and why?
I prefer the individual applications, primarily due to launch speed, but also due to what I think is a superior interface of components in the components-as-apps approach vs. the components-in-suite approach.
Well, you can once you open them. Or you can single click the Launch folder and get the application targets to drag to. But yeah, it's one thing that's missing. On the other hand, Mac OS X has the Open With popup menu at least.
Create a new folder in your Home directory. Call it Launcher.
Copy-Paste the icon from the real Applications folder to your Launcher folder.
Drag your Launcher folder into the dock.
Organize the contents of the Launcher window however you want. Put whatever shortcuts you want into it.
Remove ALL shortcuts from your dock.
That's it. Your Launch folder can be organized with shortcuts however you want, and your dock contains only running applications (plus the launch folder and the trash).
I used to read everything he wrote, but it seems lately he's becoming less focused.
The article on Panther is a case in point. He spends a good part of the article arguing for multiple windows instead of a single window interface, then spends a good part of what's left complaining about the multiple windows on his desktop. Wouldn't it be great if they closed as you opened a new one?
Well, you dumb ****, turn the option you were just bitching about back to its default setting. See? Problem gone.
Yeah, I'm waiting to see the download fail to appear on their web site this week or next. Becuase we've certainly never seen any FUD directed at discrediting Apple before, have we?
My friend used to work at McDonalds. McDonalds employees are actually paid reasonably well in Canada. They're treated quite well, too... it's a very good job here. And the benefits are fantastic.
Personally, I'd much rather have a machine read my palm print than carry around a time card. But maybe that's just me.
I don't know if the real reason behind DST -- the energy savings -- will apply there. I imagine it probably will, since Mars' axis is tilted more than Earth's.

I definitely block email to postmaster based on spam block lists. Otherwise, I get piles of spam to it.
Anyone who really needs to get ahold of me can use my phone number.
By hosting on NAC.net, they are providing support for an ISP that supports spammers where it counts -- in the pocketbook, with money.
Find a new host and quit whining.
The latest expansion, Trials of Atlantis, adds a lot of other higher level content.

Choose Provide iCal Feedback from the iCal menu and choose Bug Report from the list of options. It takes you to the iCal Feedback page.
If you do anything else, you're just causing them extra work.
Whatever you do, don't expect a reply.

Not willing to risk my car by lying to the customs agents for a few bucks.
We're getting ripped off in Canada, too. There's an extra levy on the purchase of blank CDs.

Hmm. I just copied the mailbox files from profiel to profile. Worked fine.
Will quicklaunch make its way into the 'birds?
It doesn't really have to... Firebird launches instantly. I use Thunderbird a lot less, but it seems toi launch within a couple seconds.

In fact, I'm hoping it's true. It makes it less likely that Apple will swoop down and replace one of my commercial products with a free one.

In the world of spam, 50% effective is really a brief pause, followed by 0% effectiveness. This won't even make a dent.
