Best? hmm, soda company sells soda-water, then they must mean that their soda-water is best?

The gov't kinda "play" a "stupid" customer in order to get the first impression.

Any company can be best at something, but it's their "essential" product that's the important thing.

80.000 or even maxfine 150.000 dollar aren't that much, but we're only 4,5 million people in norway, så if you mulitiply with a population of 288 million (USA) it's up to 9,6 million dollars.(one advertisment could be enough)

Here in Norway, if a company claims that their product(s) are the BEST, the official watchdogs ("marketing authorities") may ask the company for actual proof of this.

One important aspect of this prosess is that you can't just footnote* something and then "it's up to the consumer to investigate". It is the first impression whithin a few seconds that counts! If the advertisment has the "ability to mislead" than the authorities may choose to ask for evidence.

And the authorities don't accept no "bullshit-document" or study funded by the company where conclusions have been drawn in advance.

If the "marketing authorities" aren't convinsed by the "evidence" presented to them, they effectivly forbid the company to state that their product(s) are the best.

Punishment for breaking the prohibition is large fines (e.g. 80.000$) that cannot be appealed at any court. :-D

Had you known anything about the publishing industry you would have not brought this point up.

I work in that industry, and there are no big differences between using PC and Mac. Both work just fine! The major issues are about being used to something and switching costs. THAT'S why the industry (mostly) stick to mac's!

As a norwegian, it stuns me that Greenpeace is willing to provide false information about whales and whaling in order to raise money.

Greenpeace's strategy is to find the animals that we humans like the most and\or the animals that we find cute (like baby seals). Then they want to draw the public's attention by demonstrating or by some kind of action. (attention = money)

Back to whales: I'm no expert, but there are many different species of whales. It's like there are many different kinds of fish. Further, some kinds of whales are endangered, as some kinds of fish are.

But the whales that norwegians or japaneese hunt are not endangered! We do not hunt endangered whales because that would wipe out the whole population, and what good would that do? You think were're idiots or something?

As far as I can remember, we hunt the minke whale, which have a big population that can bear some hunting.

My conclusion is that whale hunting is not wrong. As is not general fishing. What's wrong is hunting animals that you may entirely wipe out. Generalising about whales is like generalising about fish. It's plain wrong!
