I sure as hell had political feelings at that age, and they didn't always mirror my parents' in content or reasoning. What's worrying is that most Americans, like you, assume that the capacity for rational political thought and reasoning is something that comes automatically with legal adulthood and the right to vote, and therefore needn't and shouldn't be excercised (let alone actively developed) before the age of 18. Small wonder, then, that the minority who even bother to vote seem to go about it so haphazardly and irrationally.

Try this: Press [Windows Key] -> (Start Menu Opens) -> Type first few characters of program/document, hit [Enter] to open. By default, at least, this is even faster and easier than Spotlight/Quicksilver's two-key invocation. Worst-case scenario, you have to scroll down a couple of lines (with arrow keys or *shudder* mousewheel) to select between multiple hits (just like Spotlight/Quicksilver).

IE's Javascript engine is excruciatingly slow. That's about the only serious complaint I have with it. For the most part, it does what I ask of it (just...very inefficiently, sometimes).

Opera's Javascript implementation, on the other hand, is "a bit quirky" like Netscape 4's HTML engine was "a bit quirky". I've seen simple, cross-browser code that behaved nearly indentically in Firefox, IE and Safari (involving manipulation of CSS properties, for instance) do absolutely bizarre things in Opera. I can only imagine the hurdles it presents to porting anything as complex as the average Google app.

Actually, you're both wrong: XPSP2 Windows Firewall is a very different beast from the original Windows Firewall in XP. XP's firewall was practically an afterthought -- minimally configurable, with a horrible management interface that required each port/transport combination to be configured with its own firewall rule (i.e., no port ranges or other conveniences).

SP2's, by contrast, is easily configurable by even the most minimally competent user: in addition to (somewhat improved) manual configuration of rulesets, SP2 Firewall borrows a page from ZoneAlarm and other modern Windows firewalls, and supports Program-based rulesets which are automatically created the first time a software comnponent attempts to access the network. As a result, people actually use it -- something which practically no one did with the original Windows firewall, and not just because it wasn't enabled by default.
