I'm a casual Ubuntu lusr & hobby kit builder. I've run only Ubuntu as my home desktop the last four years. Most hardware has Linux drivers:I exclude scanners ofcourse. That's pretty good. As long as I stay on the software main-line-path everything just (mostly) works. And works well the first time. Move off that path one-half-step and you have no idea whether you will survive the next two mouse/key clicks ! That is a very threatening and IBM_like userland experience. But, who wants to be such a drone and not experiment? The Linux cost of experimentation is ******BLAAAAAAAPOOOOO*******

It's good to investigate Martian geography and weather. We should know these things. Humans are better people because of it. But nothing has ever lived on Mars. Nothing nada nix nyet nein.
