actually re greenhouses, you could actually build massive ROOFS over some of those massive valleys/gorges that are like 10's of miles long and a few km wide, and very deep, you would have then a locked in super uber earth like environment that could grow into a fullsized normal city. At those locations you could also (but should) build backup cities inside the sides of the mountains/valleys.
Now designing a smart surface that wont break (see through rubber?) and that wont collect dust (some repelent). Or add some outside robot cleaners to clean the surface.
Yes it would be cool to build 100's of these at lots of valleys and deep craters with ceilings on em. But just one would be way cool, and way cheaper / quicker than any terraforming.

Just because you have a 3d looking rectangle with a title bar, and 8x8 pixel icon with blitted objects and mouse control (via serial wow thats so hard) all in 16colors or 256, doesnt mean it takes 100meg of code like windows. Look at QNX on a disk!! or the old Apple System 6.x on a floppy, you can do a hell of alot with good code in 1meg of assembly (or well written C). Like wise a gui in ascii mode is just as easy, so it can all be done via a layer with switchable modes.
Now if all hardware used XML as communications instead of hex codes in registers, that would be easy to write 'drivers' for em. Even if all elements were 4chars long its trivial to decode xml in hardware logic. Just a little more effort than hex codes, and you dont need no 4meg DLL/OBJ C++ API either:-)
Where bandwidth is an issue you could have a binary mode hexcode commands too if required, so no need to complain that everything will be slowassed in xml.
if first char is a greater than symbol, do xml, else if MSB high, ie 0x80, then use hex interpreter.

Why cant this TODAY and NOW, be implemented in a digital IO comms box between deep space probs and mars rovers? Then we can have TRUE real time control and transfer of digital data without the need for dishs, or waiting for orbit times etc.... We could get truely amazing real time (or before time) events in view. If its that easy, whats the data rate? can you do this 100000 times a second? 10/second? do you need 10000 atoms?
This would be great for global zero (or 10ms) lag communications around the planet too.

What we need is a text only version of thunderbird that uses 3-4meg max ram only. I guess only oldschool code hacks need apply for this easy challange (400 component IDE code jockies , your out of luck)

This is what all those 'pay for' hotspots should do, especially good for tourists and to get local info like, "where is that DVDRW shop?". Im sure local shops would pay a small token fee for a 'spot' on the intranet, "give em first 6months free" to feel it out.

Well, slowness is what you get with 12 layers of classes and countless xml config files on disk.
100x more memory pushing = 100x slower, unless we cache binary version of xml configs on disk too to speed up decoding. Thats why a DDR3400 box runs fast, because its ram is nearly 100x faster than a 300mhz box (90mbs vs 2400mbs).
maybe it requires the AI bots to play 24/7 constantly to learn, after all, human inteligence takes years to train/learn. Computer bots are faster, but still take time. Training nuron network code could be tedious but the only way to make smart bots, 1000000s of hours of the bots 'watching' human play.
11.g miniPCI cards cost $20 for small shipments, so ofcourse a $60 printer wont have it, but id sure as hell pay $80 for a printer that has 11.g built in.
