    you only need something basic that will either emit a specific wavelength, or reflect a lot of something. Those colored flares that boats use make a lot of smoke for a tiny package. So thats all you need. Either both colored and reflective and/or radioactive to be detected by something. 10pixel = 10-20 meters so its hardly a large are.

    Have a flare of some kind that spews out BLUE/GREEN smoke/crap that lands on the surface and stays there for years. and it about 100 feet long too, like powdered colored crap. use 4 of them in a cross config so you can work out where it is.

    Total weight, 1kg max.

    Then why are the ICECAPs still white and not pink?

    As our water is blue because of the SKY, not the water it self.

    should show proper color calibration using the USA flag, so that the WHITE is white, and not pink. Where is the proper RGB test pattern image on the lander to calibrate it, or get kodak to make sure the RGB is 100% accurate not OVER-RED too much.

    no one damn coded or marketed it because everyone KNEW how to do it, but had no cash or balls to go and make it.

    You can't assume that if its not sold in walmart it isnt invented.

    I wanted a tivo/hd recording back in 93, but was there anything , NO. I did code/develop a DV editing system, so yeah it had recording. But making a digital vcr wasnt on anyones card if the hardware costed $30000 back then. Now if companies have shit loads of cash, they can develop these systems in the hope that in 5-10 years it will be cheaper and be first on the market. But what usually happens is that highend systems get dumbed down to consumer models.

    HEY, I saw TimeWarm done in 93 any way, it was a professional system for live tv stop/replay for sports broadcasting, using jpeg encoders/decoders and 1/2 GIG of ram for the storage of 5mins of footage. So yeah, YOU couldnt stop LIVE Tv and rewind etc... BUT the tv station could for you using this, so DUHHHH, its been done.

    Record players and recorders were made >100 years ago! Theres your prior art.

    But if their patent is on more of a technical implementation of software, (I bet 50% of engineers could have worked it out) , then its ok, but if its something trivial , then forget it. Even if something is trivial in design, but may take 1000 hours to do, it shouldnt be patented.

    Somethings take 100000 hrs of design, but 5mins to make/code.

    But we let it be kept secret, infact the real secret is that the Xing Player KEys/code was used, buy had to be faked to look like it was reverse engineered.

    oh please, it was USA who sold lots of fuel and suppplies to germany. Even bushes grand daddy was implicated in some dodgy dealings with the germans, and IBM helped heaps by providing the germans with those new things called computers and databases and stuff. If USA didnt sell anything to germany, they wouldn't have been so powerfull in the first place to require kicking their ass.

    Only the US would sell weapons/tech to a so called customer which is a future enemy to get some quick cash and then 'come in to the rescue' later by kicking their ass.

    Now if any american is offended, please get a clue , SEPERATE the difference between the american citizens from the American Government in charge. Its your right and duty to hate with passion your own government, after all the USA Gov does tell other poor countries to rise up against their evil governments, so why can't americans do the same thing to their own ???? None of us here hate 'americans' except their govt.

    But werent japan going to surrender any way before that nuke was done? It was'nt needed really. They built it and had to 'show it off' to get maximum influence.

    This missile, which is now sold to china, and has russian launchers stationed in iran and other places can pack a nuke into it, and even with normal explosives can take down a Aircraft Carrier easily.

    Can't they learn from every other industry, make a probe like a PC, the basic spec, 100% reliable and perfect for all conditions, make 50/100 of them, at $10m each. Then add new modules for seperate science kits, like different cams, or detectors, or soil analyzers etc... give em all direct multi wire connections and bluetooth. And for gods sake, finally put some windscreen wipers on the solar panels, coz the dust gathers on them and they fail!!! surely some wipers would keep the probs/rovers going for years on end, and if the batteries fail, then at least it will work during day times. Or make a new none-chemical based battery like the spinning wheel gyros, (if they can be made small/light)

    Dunno, even steel melts at 1500+, so a steel made capsule/lander would not MELT like jelly at 800c.

    The acid might eat away at it, but making a 100% modern craft that melts at say 1800+ and can withstand the acid would'nt be too hard to make. Note that also high presure does keep things from melting too at its normal temps.

    Again, what you need is 100% detectable real time diagnositcs, if RF is too hard, use a visible spread 20W laser pointing back to earth or something. Even launch a few fuzzy flares every 1minute to touch down with different colors so that they could be easily picked up the orbiting sats. Why they didnt do a UHF transmition of its status during reentry? Perhaps also these sats should use more bluetooth like comms as backups if wires burn/break or fail with in the craft between components/cams/antennaes.

    hmm as they say, back to the drawing board.

    The ipod doesnt need to constantly keep the HD running, it can spinup, loadup the track into a 4-8meg or 32meg buffer whatever it has, and then spin down the HD. You gota be a fool to think it constantly keeps the HD running. After it is in ram, its the same as those memorycard mp3 players. LCD's never take much power and you dont always look at the backlite for hours on end, only briefly. Shit if a GBA can run for 15hrs on 2*AA on a full color LCD, or 7hrs with a backlite.

    1.4W is not that much. Less than my digital camera.

    The only prob with AA/AAA is that the NiCd or NiMH cells is that it takes 10% of mA power to charge so it takes 5-10hrs to charge. LION AAAs I think are not quite common , batteries.com has them.

    You can buy high MA AAA/AA's so something like an 2200Ma * 6 would be damn good for iPods, after all those CELLS combined make a 'battery' which is really whats in most 'batteries' any way, multiple cells, and probably of similar Ma ratings too.

    Extended sounds good.

    But re labor for changing batteries, im sure the staff there get paid probly $12-$15/hr, and it would take no more than 10minutes if you are pretty much used to doing it. So its not $50 for labor unless its a callout on site thing.

    Even modchip people for consoles dont charge that much.

    Speaking of cars, why dont cars have massive diagnostics on it, to tell you the pressure/temp etc. of every valve/pipe and extensive cooling etc...

    I would rather have a $2000 more expensive engine than a car that required $2000 worth of servicing every 12 months.

    How much support does a battery need that can't be placed online in a well designed FAQ or interactive FAQ ??? After all thats what the staff use internally on the phone any way. Its not like the support staff are genius "IT staff". Most things can be compiled down to a massive flow chart, its just most people are too dumb to read/follow it.

    Thats one thing that I thought the producers of the film stuffed up on most, the music thundering metal CHUNK like t1/t2 , was it that the person who made it had his own (C) and wouldn't let them use it? Damn pitty, surely he could have done it for $2-3m

    Maybe we should have 'unofficial edits' cut some boring scenes, add the t2 music score etc...

    There should be a whole festival for 'custom edits' by aspiring directors.
