    java still has limitations based on the OS.

    try to allocation an array of 1 trillion items, or realistically use 500,000 sockets to do IO, yeah is your server fast enough to handle 500,000 clients, not likely.

    Java uses 10x more ram, and probably in a true sense, 5x more cpu.

    Now do you want your datacentre to be 500,000 square feet, or 100,000.

    If the difference in cost is $20m in land, and $5/m anual power costs, then java can go out the window.

    Seriously though, more heat is better than less heat, a run away cooling/frozen world is real bad, nothing grows at sub zero temps.

    But a hotter planet with more co2, well plants grow faster, and who knows cows could grow to the size of dinasours :)

    If I as a 13 yo could learn C64 asm over a weekend, then surely an adult in the future could learn CPUs too.

    Theres nothing wrong with abstraction, we all did it even in assembly via macros, data tables etc....

    Its just natural that today we have 10x more layers, as we have 1000x more cpu speed.

    A mandelbrot in javascript will still be faster than ASM on a c64.

    Depends if 6m lines are comments, you arent going to reduce the comment lines, or is that 12m lines true code lines not including comments/empty lines/braces.

    Sure any one can reduce 6 lines of IFs into one IF statement that looks more ugly.

    Total lines should not 100% be used as a measurement of goodness.

    Can we measure total functions plus average/mean lines of code per function?

    I am supprised Sony didnt release a PS2 with built in wifi in 2006 at the same time as the Ps3, and with an updated firmware that would have had a similar online ability for it.

    Technically, a group of 5-6 people for the cost of $1m could have done it, or $30m if you add corporate management overhead and fancy offices.

    It could have been done. Shit... home brew people can do it with the HBC on wii.

    Do what I did, take 10% longer on Task A, and work over time or do some work at home to implement your NEEDED feature on the sly on the side in secret.

    Then lie and say, "look I have prototyped solution X, and its cool, only took me 6 lunch breaks" .

    Then if they still deny you, slide the feature in and only enable it if _blah_debug registry is set to '42'.

    Yep, luck mac bastards, they can buy a cheap ass low end PC for $200 or less to code for windows.

    But us windows people cannot buy a $200 mac to code for the iphone.

    Apple could port its iphone sdk to gcc/windows/linux quite easily.

    But its not in their interest, so even if it cost them say $200,000 to do it, they wouldnt.

    75% taxes are evil evil evil. So if the 25% ON TOP of 50% costs me say 30k in taxes, I will be willing to spend $5k on a jewish accountant to minimize that by 25k.

    All that 75% does is put a ceiling on 'cash' salary, and places the rest of renumuation into under the counter 'gifts'.

    Anything higher than 40% is pure THEFT. Governments dont need that much revenue, if they do, then they are too big and wasteful.

    Unless the 75% rate is for huge salaries, such as 3m dollars, then its a mafia style theft. Worse than mafia.

    How hard is it to find an editor that will handle TABS nicely?
    If you are forced to use notepad then jeez, find a way to install scite or something small that works better.
    Dont force your self to use a crap editor that is NOT meant for code.

    Seriously, thats a poor mans excuse, "because i have to use a shit editor" , get a better editor / viewer. There are 100s of em.

    You are forced to edit source on a C-64 40col text editor.
