Walt? Sorry bud, I don't get my tech insight from the WSJ. No offense, of course.
No, you seem to be mixing facts up. Celerons go in low end machines. Pentium Ms go in mid and high end machines. The pentium M is significantly faster than a P4 or celeron. It also has much more battery life.
A Latitude D800/Wide Aspect/Centrino (starting at ~$1400) for $2000 would wipe the floor with this thing. Not to mention equivilant battery life. Just put some gentoo on to eliminate the winblowz problems.
ip2location.com says I am 80 miles away from where I actually am located. There are 30+ towns in between here and that location. I'm in the US, I don't think it's as accurate as you claim.

So much for the/. of 2 years ago (or even a long time ago:)).
It's not so much the moderators fault, it's just that/. sees very volatile mods because there are not enough mod points given out to "normalize" the moderation.
Then why do they keep insisting that the technology is replacing everything and curing world hunger and is the best thing since sliced bread is here, when in reality, it's missing a critical *key* component?
Is it just me, or is the boy still crying wolf?
Wasn't VOIP going to take over in 1998?
I'm not saying it's not an excellent technology, nor am I implying it won't take over PBXs, but the article is no different than any other 1998 Voice IP is Here, all your pbx are belong to us! articles.
Seriously, what's the hold up?
I see your point, but at the same time, will this cause this artists to realize that they don't need the record companies anymore? I mean, really, all an artist is doing is sacrificing a good profit for security (Contracts, Advertising, etc), right?
Just because something changes doesn't mean it's for the best and therefore it doesn't mean it is even remotely due to evolution.
You really are a twit!
Think about the logic...here, I'll help.
Change (mutation) in person A. Person A is now immune to Disease B. Person A can't be infected by the disease. This is good!
Wow, imagine that! It changed for the good!
Now...
Change (mutation) in person C. Person C is now a huge risk for Disease D, gets Disease D. Person C dies of Disease D. The changes are not passed on... (This is the opposite of bad, or in other words: good) Wow! ANOTHER `change` for the good!
This was a generalized version.
It takes us millions of years to develop frontal lobes, because there are millions of changes. Every single one of us has a mutation of some type, it's just that some of the mutations don't manifest themselves.
Now, ideally, you understood this. If you didn't, good luck with the rest of your life.

They've had a lot more time to plan this one. Now, instead of rushing out a good game, they have planned an excellent game. I predict the game will look better graphically, because they've had more time to experiment. Additionally, hardware aside, I assume they've done A LOT of work on the AI. Moreover, they've obviously spent time on making sure it was xbox-live compatible. I know a lot of people who will now purchase xbox live because of this. The point: Graphically, Halo was probably 90% of how good it was going to get. Multiplayer, Maps, Network Play (What network play?) were meager at best. If they can get those up to the level of what single player was, it will dominate the market for a long time.
On the contrary, they were not workarounds, they were fairly legit considering the alternatives. For instance, 1-800-contacts can still call me when my contact perscription expires, because I've already had a _business_ relationship with them. The fcc would have been laughed at if it tried to prevent said things from being done. The law would have been turned into a joke. On the other hand, the law was a joke for a time, but now I only get 1 call a week from telemarketers. It could have been (and WAS) _a lot_ worse.

You put SUN in your list. That's just wrong. Sun has TONS of defects, but you won't find them recalling anything. Namely:
HUGE Cache problems with almost every Ultrasparc IIi
No link, but the A1000 defects that are fixed by literally 10's of patches.
Netras that have nics that don't work unless they auto-neg.
Ultras that have nics that don't work unless you hard set the speed.
I can go on, and on, and on...
Dell, Apple and Firestone deserve to be in that list..but Sun Doesn't.Understood.

Can't we just download all of an artists cd, send them a letter with $5 in it, and say "Hey, thanks."
That way, we can remain anonymous, make sure the artist gets more than a few cents, and feel good about our downloadings.
In reality, I'd like to pay some artists *more* than $5, but that's more than they are making now (per cd)...

Many fellow /.s predicted this would happen, mainly because like it said, these devices _must_ accept interference.
