"There's nothing whatsoever in them that says that you can't train your replacement badly."
This never works, because replacements usually start doing some part of your job while you are training them. if they start doing part of your job while you are training them badly, the folks you report to will likely notice. It's rare that you train folks to do stuff in IT without them actually doing some of it under your watch. it's rare that there's a cutoff date where, you train them, and you quit and they start on the same day. That doesn't happen often.
Science doesn't need to explain away God; it just provides explanations for phenomena that used to be ascribed to God, thus making him (or her) irrelevant as an explanation.
This was true, but only for 6 months to a year I think. The rumor was the phone was coming out, but even before the iPhone came out they were under pressure, and started writing the SDK before it came out, so that about a year later you could start writing apps.
That's because that is what people think of when someone says gadget. It's not just any invention or tool, its an electronic one.
If you think a wheel is a gadget, can you name a specific wheel brand that was influential? After all, the iPhone is #1 on the list, even thought here were other smartphones before and after...
No one is saying people didn't survive, or even thrive, before the advent of the air conditioner. But modern white collar society around the world exists and has expanded because of climate controlled environments. The number of industries that would be affected if you could not control the temperature in which the work is being done is virtually unlimited. Who wants to work in a bank/warehouse/packing plant/law firm/supermarket/or you name it if it is super hot (or super cold)? Humans CAN do this, but it's undeniable that countless industries have expanded in large part because humans got the fundamentals down first: a working toilet, running water, and air conditioning.
Yes, but refrigeration allowed people to bring western culture to places that did not have it before (rather than the other way around) because of the ability to travel further with a wider variety of provisions.
The gun is a tool, not a gadget. It's like a hammer.
Also, this list is a list of specific gadgets. So if you really wanted to make a point, you would have said something like a Spencer Repeater, a Colt 45, or a Winchester Model 1873 "The Gun that Won the West". Not just "a gun."
I don't think the wheel counts as a gadget. There's a fine line between a gadget and a tool, and the wheel is the latter, just like a hammer.
This list is one of SPECIFIC versions of objects that had already existed, but which were the best examples of their class; the Walkman and the iPhone were just very good examples of gadgets that had existed in one form or another already.
A refrigerator is not a "gadget" in the traditionally understood use of the term. it's an appliance. if we allow appliances, then we must allow the air conditioner, which is could easily be argued as more important. A TV is also an appliance, which is why I don't understand #2 on this list.
"Uber circumvents laws to protect passenger safety. They pay lousy wages while slacking on insurance."
I don't understand this argument. Drivers are required to have insurance. If they can't provide proof to Uber that they are insured, the drivers can't use the app and won't get paid. At the end of the day, you are no less at the mercy of a random Uber driver than you are a random taxi driver. Rememeber, taxi drivers can be serial killers too!
Thing is, here in San Francisco, Taxis are doing rather well, despite all the publicity to the contrary.
It's actually quite easy to catch cabs in many parts of the city now and they are often better, because cabs have gotten their act together and are now much more responsive to folks looking for them, and they accept cash. Also, many of the companies now have an app (Flywheel) that can be used just like Uber and Lyft's app. To be honest, I actually prefer Taxis.
I use it on Windows and have used it for years. The only problems I have have to do with syncing with iCloud across multiple devices, so I don't do that anymore. Otherwise it works fine and I have a HUUUGE library.
It is very difficult to find songs on Youtube to listen to to remember Prince's works by, at the moment, because Prince himself made it difficult. He was not just any musician who had problems with how the internet affected his music, but perhaps the primary one. This site is a site for news for nerds, and Princes death is relevant to those of us who use the internet for music.
When was the last time a US government agency massacred dozens of people here in the US? When was the last time the cops went into a school or theater and shot dozens of folks?
I am SO TIRED of you anti-government idiots. I am NOT afraid of my government. I AM afraid of gun-loving idiot civilians in this country.

But I'm so alone right now. So cold. So very very cold. Nobody loves me. :-(
This was true, but only for 6 months to a year I think. The rumor was the phone was coming out, but even before the iPhone came out they were under pressure, and started writing the SDK before it came out, so that about a year later you could start writing apps.
I said often...You can write Jigantic and it sounds the same (and is less confusing) than Gigantic.

Where's the GoPro? That one should rank pretty high if you ask me.
That one is #10. No joke.
Exactly. C is redundant, just like G is, which can often be replaced by J. Or the letter E, which can easily be replaced by Y.

this, exactly.
I would like to preface your emoji with a burrito emoji.
Dear idiot,

Nope, this joke did not work.
Actually, most of the cows I know are outstanding in their field. :-)

Because they aren't psycopaths, psychopath.
