"After all, it is really apple's convention, its not a convention for apple-- the people who put on that show are profiting on apple's support, not the other way around."
Unfortunately, I think that is exactly the 'arrogant' attitude that is what holds apple back from being as successful as the IBM compatible PC industry.
Historically, they've always seem other people profiting off of 'their industy' as leeches, who owe their existance to apple. They crack down on diversity, especially when it's not apple authenticated, and while they seem to throw out technological innovation like no one knows, the fact that they keep it closed off from the rest of the world (in terms of use and development) kills them.
Apple _would_ owe its profit to the people at the show if they supported the _whole_ industry -- and then, they'd probably have a lot more profit.
Or, maybe not, but the mac industry as a whole would.
No... should I? Oh no, now someone knows what my fingerprints are! They could... well... I don't know. But hey, they government could track anyone doing _anything_, right?
Uh, ok.
The only reasonable issue I see with that is making sure that such a thing does not automatically determine you guilty -- after all, as people have said, anything can change or be forged.
However, it _does_ make sense to me that it might help get to the criminal faster. And by itself, that's not a Bad Thing.
I dunno, I'm not doing anything illegal (that anyone cares about, anyway), maybe that's why I don't care if law enforcement agencies can track me.
Uh. I guess you could mirror the drives for security. But striping would be a nono -- sure, you could get the drives to run twice as fast, and give you 200MB/Burst transfer, or 60MB/Sec sustained......over bluetooth's 768k connection.
I believe microsoft just released a bluetooth version of their mouse.
Of course, it _is_ microsoft.
I hate to be a 'not news' messenger

3D LCD Display
·
· Score: 1
But Tom's Hardware had an article reviewing a 3d LCD display back in May of 2001.
And I'm going to vote on the whole "it's crap' side. I don't want to be forced to sit in one spot for it -- so, I won't buy it. Still, it's cool that it's being produced.
Well, anyway, it is news in that it, um, is slightly different. But it's hardly revolutionary.
3D shutter glasses are fairly cheap now, and work better, and hell buy two and two people can watch in 3d!
I tend to find that N64 games (my only real experience) tend to have a lot of bugs in them as well. Less, obviously, because there arn't hardware compatibility issues, and there certainly arn't any bugs that make the game unplayable -- but there are always some that crop up, but of course being a console, you don't have the option to patch it.
And on that note, making mods for games aint gonna work as well, is it? If half-life were console only, would counter-strike have been made? You can't just download customizations... well, maybe you can, now that the X-Box has a harddrive and such.
you would have understood why that's the only possible response to you.
LOL! Wrong. You replied to one portion and used that as a means to disregard the remainder since you couldn't counter the several points made within.
Well, sure, really he could have answered in any of a billion ways, including "bloggldybloopitash" and "Yo 'mama". So I guess s/he was a little inaccurate.
But don't miss the spirit of the post. The point was that, whether or not you have flaws in your logic and even whether or not they are pointed out to you, it will be in vain, as you can simply respond with an irrational an unsubstatiated argument and "win", in your mind. As you (apparently) demonstrated with your "I don't think, I know" comment. So what's the point in debating?
Whether or not I actually agree with that point, of course, is a whole 'nother story.
I believe it was Aristotle who theorized that an arrow flies through the air because the air kindly moves out of the way, gets behind it, and pushes it forward.
Believing in the inherent goodness of the elements, and all that jazz.
There's a difference between ending "support", and leaving a huge gaping security hole in the software though.
I bet if [pick-your-favorite-car-company here] found a huge flaw in their 92' model, that caused it do blow up randomly, there'd be a bunch of people up-in-arms about it too.
There's a large distinction between getting service because your product broke, and getting service because it was broken from the start.
Does this simply mean that new Macs won't ship with both installed? Or will the new hardware just not support Mac OS 9 booting at all? Could you reinstall both OSs and set up your own dual-boot system?
Or are they actually saying the equivalent of "New PCs will no longer have the capacity to boot into Windows 98"?
Back in the late 80s, I had a 286 with a 20GB hard drive
Damn man! And mine was only 16 MB!! How the hell did you get that?
Seriously though, it comes down more to the software developers wasting space with their apps than people using it wastefully. I mean, I go through my Temp directory (win2k) daily and have to clear out a good couple hundred megs! Why don't applications clean up after themselves!
"The DSC-FX77 features a cradle which offers various solutions. A USB interface and connection for quick and easy image download"
Right, so, from this let's conclude that there must be a method of storage on the camera, from which you can transfer the images.
So, quit complaining "Oh, but now I'm forced to wait 47 seconds between shots". That doesn't quite seem the point. More than anything, as it has been said, bluetooth is cable replacement -- so it's a wireless replacement for the above mentioned cradle.
Oh, and 802.11b? Great stuff, fast, large range. Why do you think bluetooth isn't that way? Oh right, bluetooth was made for low power consumption , portability, an low costs. So great, here's your 802.11b version, can transfer for 10 second before dying on those two AA batteries, and puts you back the cost of the camera again.
I bought the revelator stereo glasses from, ELSA I think? They work with almost any card, but definately any NVIDIA derivative. I got it originally with my TNT2 -- oh god that was useless! But still, with those you don't need the 'pro' versions.
Personally, I love Adelphia's Acceptable use policy. Some highlights:
>> a) You agree not to use the Power Link Service or any Equipment or Software provided by Adelphia:
to post or transmit any information or material that: infringes any person's of copyright, trademark, trade secret, patent or other proprietary rights; is defamatory, libelous, offensive, threatening, abusive, pornographic, sexually explicit, profane, or otherwise is unacceptable or inappropriate in Adelphia's sole discretion; constitutes or encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, gives rise to civil liability or otherwise would violate the law; or contains a virus or other harmful component; or is false regarding You; >>
So viewing porn isn't allowed. Neither is lying, encouraging mp3 distribution (or anything that might be interpreted as such), swearing, (God damn it!) or anything that whomever at Adelphia decides is "not nice".
Oh, and this:
>> [You may not make] direct connection attempts to a service or system not owned or controlled by You; >>
Such as telneting(sshing?) into a school's server, or hell, most network games!
Oh, and finally,
>> [You are not allowed] (v) to run a server of any type in connection with the Power Link Service, nor may You provide network or host services to others via the Power Link Service. Tom's Hardware recently reviewed and compared MP3s, WMAs, and a newcomer AAC, from Dolby. It seems like AAC may turn out to be a non-microsoft based competitor. Perhaps this is a new format that will be embraced if MP3s start to downtrend?
And to those who say "So what, we don't have to pay it!",
Who is going to pay it? The software companies? You think they're not going to pass those costs on to the end consumer? You've got another thing coming.
Oh, and those freeware players you've been using? Well, most freeware/Open source companies arn't going to pay the $.75 for you to use their product, so I guess all those will be yanked.
On the one hand, this sucks -- or has the potential to. On the other hand, has anyone else considered -- the music codec market has remained pretty much unchanged for a long while now. We're constantly getting better MPEG encoding, but we've been using MP3 for ages. I refuse to believe that there is nothing better!!
Perhaps this will stimulate development of different and better technologies -- I've always been one for diversification.

Sorry, I don't know that it's practical. =]
Why does the US have half the worlds lawyers? It really makes no sense.
Because the US also has 1/3 of the world's wealth, and a justice system that allows you to sue frivorously(spelling, I know, I'm lazy).
I could care less who wins
Ok... so you could care less -- which means you do care... so how much do you care? That's a very vague statement.
Unless, of course, you meant you couldn't care less, meaning you don't care at all...
I believe microsoft just released a bluetooth version of their mouse.

In other news, in a broad sweep that stunned the nation, Congress banned news. More, at news at 11... oh, damn.
Is that right? Ok, so, at 100Ghz, that means each click is, ummm, 0.00000000001 seconds.
.66
.66 = 19786302228 cm/s
Speed of light = 299,792,458 m/s, convert that to centimeters for ease of use (*100) so,
= 29979245800
ok, but we know the signal only operates at 2/3 of that speed, so mulitply by
SigSpeed = 29979245800 *
Now, to find out how fast it travels 5cm, we want to use s = d/t, ts =d, t = d/s. So
5 cm / 19786302228 cm/s = 0.0000000002527 s.
Now we want to compare the time is took to the clock timing,
0.0000000002527 s
0.00000000001
so it takes 25.3 clock cycles at 100ghz! Hey, you were'nt kidding!

Because not everyone has shitloads of money and connections to get into the movie business?
I notice some people mentioned that he's written some books -- perhaps that might satiate your demand, if they're any good?

Did you read the question?
Ah, but how do you crack something when it just squishes?

I'll bet that the current theories won't, and they'll have to invent something new to account for the difference, ala Tachyons or Dark Matter

Yeah, putting that potential person out of a job!
Man, all our labor class is gonna be replaced by robots!
Where do you think all those butlers go when there not needed, huh? 'Magically' find a better job?
Someday, we won't even need to tell the computer to open the blinds... and what use will it have for us then.
(Yay for Terminator 3 coming soon!)

I think that depends on whether you're British or American, actually. Talk amongst yourselves...
