Why is it researchers always seem to think that systems that think for themselves in a "human type" way is a Good Thing. Time and time again they have proved to be rubbish. If people want human like interaction they generally prefer another human and they expect machines to be logical, to the point and do exactly what they're instructed to do. I'm sure this is a very interesting project from a research point of view but I seriously question its true usefulness.
Oh hear we go. Included the/. favourite acronym of attack: FUD and then sprinkle on some juvenile name calling such as "bottom feeder". Talk about a join-the-dots type of reply, and you call ME a sheep?? Yes the dying loved ones scenario is an exageration in most cases but its exaggerations that make the point. Something you obviously don't get.
Yeah thats right. Anyone who expresses an opinion on here that doesn't go with the standard issue everything-should-be-free status quo is a troll. Grow up.
Because thanks to sanctamonious hand ringing suckers like you the rest of us can cash in your your effort. Btw , when you have a family and
perhaps someone in it gets ill and you can't afford the care for them , I hope for your sake they appreciate how your moral stance means they have to suffer more than they would have if you'd actually grown up emotionally and earnt a better living from your skills.
I wouldn't recommend LPD to normal users but for us techy types it does everything you need and I can't really see the point of CUPS which introduces extra complexity for little extra (if any) functionality. The config file for lpd (/etc/printcap) might be messy but it is logical and doesn't take long to set up so personally I little little advantage in CUPS though I stand to be corrected.

Well I imagine that means it can't fork. Anyway , surely the issue is how well it performs, not the questionable sense of humour of the code authors.
Not always actually. Small files can be hand created and its good to be able to view the files in case of errors. Perhaps you should work on some real projects instead of XML 101 at your college.
"so much recoil that it slows the plane's forward motion down by about 75-100 knots for each 2 second burst."
You sure its that much? That would mean that if the gun was fired on the ground with the plane stationary and the brakes off the plane would be doing 75-100knots backwards in 2 seconds! I know its a powerful gun but its not THAT powerful.
The length of day will makes no difference to the amount of solar energy the planet receives. You can't get away from the fact that Venus is far too close to the Sun for a stable earth like climate to exist.
The apollo missions used ICs do to the complex stuff. And what exactly are you going to do with a sequencer? HOw will that manage to digitise the data the probe has to send? You think you can build an A/D converter, processor and other associated instruments out of vacuum tubes and make it small and robust enough for a space probe? Oh let me guess , you think it would be ok to send a probe that sends back nothing more than a few risible B&W images on a static riddled analogue channel before it dies? Stop living in the 50s and get real.
Why? Simple. Whatever you do to the planet or its atmosphere you can't change the fact that its 30% closer to the sun that the earth and receives a LOT more solar energy per square meter. Even assuming it was made the same as earth in every other way it would STILL have an equatorial temperature close to boiling point which would make the whole system very unstable since if you had large oceans they would rapidly evaporate leading to huge amounts of water vapour in the air and a runaway greenhouse effect. Again. Ok , you limit the amount of water on the planets surface but that just means most
of it will end up in the atmosphere so rather putting a damper on the idea of a flourishing earth life. At the VERY BEST you'd end up with a small patch of almost inhabitable land near the poles. Not really worth the effort I think you'll agree.
Vacumm tubes might like heat but I'm not sure your resistors and capacitors would be quite so thrilled by it. Besides , for a probe to do anything useful it needs a computer and unless you're suggesting sending a space version of the 1940s Colossus machine there your idea is a bit of a non starter I'm afraid.
Acid rain may form in the high atmosphere but it evaporates LONG before it reaches the ground. Venus is a dry desert and probably has been for the last 4 billion years.
"We will have to speed up the axial rotation of the planet, well, maybe it is possible by using directed nuclear explosions, or by inducing a strong electromagnetic field upon the planet's core (I don't know how to do that.)"
Err yeah. I think you've been watching too many Sci Fi B-movies. Thanks for playing...
Err , I think you'll find that Mars DOES have an atmosphere. It might be thin but its enough for clouds and to move dust around. YOu might want to read up a bit first before you post crap next time.
Its not illegal. You could go out and buy a crystal radio in specialist electronics shops today. Though I suspect that special cases could be made judged on individual activities.
Er yes , except that a normal radio would sap the same amount of power out of the signal too to drive its pre-amp stages. Besides which , the odds of another aerial being on EXACTLY the same line as the one you're using is minimal and the energy would just be lost to space anyway.
HOw can it be theft?? Its simply using the power from radio waves that a normal radio absorbs anyway! I know the germans love passing trivial laws but I don't think even they would pass a law that stupid so I think you must be mistaken.
If they're really serious about Perl becoming an all purpose mainstream language and not just a mickey mouse lashup for doing scripting why don't they just release a proper compiler instead of messing around with technology-of-the-month virtual machines? Yes VMs have their uses but compiled code generally beats VMs (even JIT VMs) so why not have that as an option?
If you want to make someone stronger forget genetics and all this hi-tech stuff. Take a leave out of other primates books and move the muscle attachments further along the bone away from the joint so giving a much greater mechanical advantage. Ever wondered why that 100 pound chimp is so damn strong and how 500 pound gorillas can pull themselves up a tree with one arm? Well thats why.
Can someone tell me why Slackware hardly ever gets a mention in these sorts of articles that purport to be written by journos with their fingers on the pulse? Slackware is used by a LARGE number of sys admins so though it may me small fry in the home market its anything but in the server arena. Perhaps these writers should get a bit more clued up about whats really going on out there rather than just finding out and waflling about distributions that their mates have mentioned to them.

The client itself probably takes up only a small fraction of that requirement!

Yes he is you idiot. The whole point of XML is that it the raw data file can be read by a human!!!

Fair enough , a buffer overflow bug can occur in any program. But thats a bug , its not exploiting a *designed in feature* of the client.
