    The authors would have to be extremely careful. If they include a bug, the results could be worse than doing nothing at all. And if they include a backdoor or auto-update feature, the blackhats could end up using machines with the auto-patcher infection instead.

    This is something that the Linux community doesn't need, because if another open source project starts accusing Linux of using stolen code, us Linux promoters will lose our "moral" highground. Sometimes that's all we have, since we still don't have a marketing machine needed to push Linux into millions of homes.

    It couldn't have happened to a 'nicer' company. Skype also had a week of serious downtime in the last month (some rumoured it was a spyware installation from the US Government).

    And what the article author didn't know is that motherboards are pretty much exempt. Also they can't be recycled, unless surrounded by a desktop case.

    Not only is it neutral, but it's carbon negative. You'd have a source of carbon right from the CO2 in the air around production ~assuming they can use that carbon efficiently by splitting it from the oxygen. I think they'd just need a chlorophyl machine to do that.

    I have a $100 laptop... the problem is, it's a Pentium 233MMX, and I got it years ago, and it's from ~1998. I'd much rather have an underpowered machine that is silent and able to do basic video stuff, than pay top dollar for a games 3D workhorse. That's why I bought a mobile AMD processor HP Slimline desktop last year.

    I didn't realize that until after grade 6 some time, since I remember thinking a boy with a pencil stabbed hand was going to get some lead poisoning. I'd wager that a question like that on Who can outsmart a Fifth Grader type show, would yield nearly 50% who don't know what the material in pencils really is.
