ml_ipod does a better job of syncing too. Just dont install the winamp media player stuff and instead just use ml_ipod. It only breaks it if you install both at once.
not sure how winamp is harder than itunes to find music...I tend to find the winamp libraty (accessable through alt-L) to be far more powerful than itunes. Just click "Audio" and its easy.
Do you actually think they bothered to check the networks to see if anyone was filesharing?
They dont need to check the networks or bribe a student to do it because they can simply say that it is happening and send a letter. There is going to be SOMEONE on any large university network who is sharing files on limewire or even has an accidentally open SMB share from when they shared their music with themselves at home (though most schools require your SMB shares to be locked down enough that you have to know what you are doing). Hell, my music professor was showing us videos from her powerbook (through a projector) today and limewire was quite clearly an open and running piece of software in the dock.
You will be hard pressed to find a campus where none of this is present so they dont have to have ANY proof when all they are doing is issueing an ultimatim to the schools (this has nothing to do with the courts yet).
bar's clubs and stores however can't demand your ID. They wont serve you if you dont show them, but that is your choice. Same with driving, you dont have to have a drivers license but you cant drive without one.
You can still walk around with empty pockets in this country without having to worry about a "papers please"
Does everyone in California have a drivers license? Do you have to present that license when asked any time other than when you are actually in a vehicle?
is anyone noticing how quickly my comment got modded troll? It is in reference to the tagging of the article, is a response to a comment saying dvorak is an idiot where I simply point out that the tagging system agrees. If anything it should be informative (if not at least interesting).
Maybe that is why they are all getting tagged troll,/. is just troll-happy.

Same story here. Had an old compaq and it was great (as great as a 486 could be) but I wouldnt touch one now...bought a PIII dell and it was great (as a matter of fact, it is STILL a great system though graphics card would have died if I hadnt replaced the cooler and it has a lot more RAM and HDD space) but I wouldnt touch their desktops with a 10 ft pole right now. Their laptops maybe, simply because sometimes they are incredibly cheap even though they are shoddily made (and I love my 1905FP).
It's actually not that bad right now in my physics classes (though I dont know how many are majors)
Now, the real dilemma is found when you compare the girls who are in my physics class to the girls who are in my econ class...note: the intro-econ course has 230 people in it (largest course here) and assuming half are girls, there are still so many that the ratio of attractive to unattractive coudl be the same as the physics class but you just wouldnt notice it as much. I dont think this is completely the case though.
/me looks at pile of physics and calculus textbooks /me looks at amount of male names on current course roster /me realizes the real reason they started such a big push for "women in science" /me realizes he has a knack for this kind of thinking and switches major to econ
/me still types with IRC commands /quit I guess I do belong in the sciences still...
I go to yet another one of those early facbook schools (if I remember it, there were the "early 11" schools after harvard and...its one of those). I know exactly one person who doesnt have an account (but even now, you can find them since people have posted pictures of them). There seem to be more of the "meatheads" on myspace (as well as sex offenders and preteens) than facebook...
Overall, its just a better place (but myspace can be more entertaining because sometimes it is just so absolutely ridiculous).
true but I would still suggest them if asked (such as the numerous ask/.s that ask for good hosts) even if there wasnt a refferal. They are nice because they arent such a big faceless corporation like my last host was--I still get fairly informal personal feeling email from them, problems are addressed quickly, and the feature set and how they make it available are done in a very geek-customer friendly manner.
I totally agree with you.
I happen to have a dreamhost refferal link as my slashdot url and its not like it costs anyone money to click on it or more than they would otherwise pay should they choose to purchase hosting. If they hadnt seen it, maybe they never would have found such a wonderful (from my experiance across 3 domains) host. Granted, at one time there was a code that gave you teh full year for one month's price and using my link would be worse but that deal has since died. Actually, you can enter the code 7BACKNOW and you basically get the first month free (at the lowest tier) since you get $7 back.
Going to a school that is recruited heavily by i-banking firms, future employers really want to know the "other side of the story" on their applicants, the one that isnt told to them by the resume and interview process.
I know that they have been known to hire people with access to the schools facebook (either current employees who are alumni or simply "hey, we will pay you $x for y amount of time with access to your account"). Now that facebook has tagable pictures that are much more advanced than myspace's photos, it's not even what you put in your own profile that matters but what other people post pictures of you doing. They aren't going to care about the ubiquitous pictures of minors consuming alcohol (its college...) but there are people with profiles where 90% of the pictures show them with a bong/blowing out smoke/something else along the lines. All things being equal (or even not being equal), I'm going to take the applicant that has pictures showing them doing a variety of activities over the one where the majority of their photos show them smoking pot. Some of it is just simple common sense...the untag button is there for a reason.
The real geek squad can make money becasue they are really fricking good at what they do and do it for $150 an hour. Of course the only real geek squad "agent" in a best buy is the one overseeing the best buy techs.
The best buy techs make money the same way they did before, getting paid low wages to run scans and reinstalls in parallel on a bunch of systems at once. It's the same old techs with slightly (ok, actually the best buy geek squad is a LOT better than they used to be) better training and a new name.
The real geek squad began in minneapolis a good long while ago and since spread to some other citys (san fransisco comes to mind). They are very good techs, being able to service all OS's and types of equipment. They had on site service only and did their job very quickly and efficiently.

Works great with large collections.

I played around with this site, I can zoom it but cant make it full screen. What are they thinking...

yeah, but then all of the creepy uncles would be calling you for...other reasons
He had an amazing desk that was balanced with pneumatics. You simply had to grab the desk and pull a bar to adjust between sitting and standing.
I have since always wished I had something similar.
do either of you have pictures/writeups of this?
